I was not as quick as I normally am to work this one out. The difficulty lay in the fact that the position is proportional where the height = 1 and the width = 1 irrespective of the aspect ratio. However, I got there in the end and had to resort to creating an Excel Spreadsheet to do the arduous calculations for me.

Thanks for your interesting tests, which show us what you can do with Vegas on-board tools without having to buy expensive FX. Admittedly - in the additionally purchasable plugins everything is probably already solved more comfortably and intuitively, - but with a lot of creativity and mathematical understanding (which are not as thoroughly developed with me as with you😊) a lot is also possible with Vegas.

What formula is behind it so that you arrive at the value 60.64 in the example for the perfect circle?

I used trigonometry to arrive at the correct angle...
Angle = Arctan(Width÷Height)
In Excel the cell formula looks like "=DEGREES(ATAN(1920/1080))"
I should also mention that using the above Aspect Ratio Angle for the Rectangular Gradient Type will give you a perfect square...
Compared with Gradient, you can explore Cookie Cutter, which can make many interesting effects. 😉

Here I've used trigonometry to control the width / height ration of the circle to get the kind of ellipse that's most pleasing before using it as an overlay to add drama to an otherwise boring title.
