Personally, I loathe the portrait videos....

I hate it too, but it's what the current market asks for. is the new trend, they are vertical videos. tiktok, reels, shorts...

I wonder how many people that do use Vegas work in portrait mode. But do agree, going forward, a preset arrangement of windows for accommodating 9:16 video would be nice.

Anyone who has vegas as their work tool will use it to edit any type of video, as it is a very complete program.

The current market asked for 3D at one time also...

But I agree with you, Vegas is a very complete editing program for my needs. And I also agree, that vertical videos are everywhere. I personally don't like them, but agree that there should be a template with the preview window is on the side to give the biggest viewing possible.

but what saddens me is being able to see these features in other software, and not having them in my software that I've been using for over 10 years.

As far as portrait style preview, what Gary suggested is basically the same thing with one extra step of having to make the preset first... but I agree it would look cleaner if it could dock beside the timeline. It's a good goal to set... but as Gary mentioned, it would take so much time to do that it would put off a lot of other very important things that need to be done with VEGAS to keep it competitive... I don't see large numbers of people giving up on VEGAS because they have to make a preset to display a vertical preview before they can activate it with one click... But I do see them leaving VEGAS over performance and stability issues, etc... I say let's worry about getting VEGAS running as fast or faster than its competition, reliably, then we can start devoting large amounts of time and resources into adding on the bells and whistles, such as a UI overhaul.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

of course, that wouldn't make me leave vegas, I have a huge list of problems in vegas that I'm going to post, but I'm waiting for a new build of vegas 20 to come out, so I can eliminate something from my list that has already been fixed

the list is quite extensive, I hope the devs see it

They do see it, and they have a huge list of their own as well... but for now, their team is small, time and resources are limited, so they have to pick and choose very carefully which features to add first. They have to choose the ones that are going to have the biggest impact on the largest number of people. I personally would LOVE for them to add a theming capability to the VEGAS UI, but that as well has to be one of those "put on the back burner" items, as such a UI overhaul would take a lot of time to complete. Once the team is able to grow some, that will change, and they'll start being able to dedicate resources to this kind of thing... and they are growing... just added new talent to the team recently.

@m3lquixd
But do us all a favor and don't start this extensive list like this thread. Please stay on topic and don't shame the developers and owners of Vegas in this way.
They will also understand what you want if you state your concern in a factual and concise manner. You'll make more friends among the developers that way than with your insinuating remarks.
We users also don't like to waste our time by reading long, detailed descriptions that could also be presented in a factual, short and concise way.
We provide our free time because we want to help other users who have problems with the software, and are not at all interested in dampening the frustration of angry people.
Thanks in advance.
