GPU makers AMD and NVIDIA are finally solving their audio issues

Only a couple of weeks ago, Nvidia Software QA Manager said DPC Latency Fix was ready to launch. This, after years of DPC issues with Nvidia cards.

On the AMD side, its latest (July 25th) driver update, Adrenalin 23.7.2 release notes state: "Fixed Issues: -Audio may intermittently become out of sync with video when recording from AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition with AVC and HEVC codecs."

Another long standing issue.

These recent news show how these companies are finally bringing into their focus the Audio and Video processing world. In AMD case this year they worked with Magix and Resolve developers to release specific upgrade fixes for both NLEs.

AMD only now, with their release of driver 24.7.1 (17 Jul 24), has provided a more accurate time reference to when their Audio Video persistent synchronization issue fix will be released.

For quite some months already, their driver updates' accompanying release notes have included this problem as part of their known issues.
It has been described as: "Audio and video may intermittently become out of sync while recording using the AV1 codec in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition". And the solution has been signaled for the third quarter of 2024.

Differently, at the just released 24.7.1 Adrenalin driver release notes, it says: [Resolution targeted for 24.9.1]
Which, if the drivers release schedule respects its usual monthly cadence, would mean that the fix will be released sometime in this September.
Has taken time, nevertheless are good news.

I use audio device interfaces from RME & Focusrite which are quick enough not to exhibit the problems described. Might be helped by my only installing basic video drivers:

Only do screen capture occasionally but see no problems with Adrenalin on desktops or OBS on my laptop capturing app-audio. Plus mic for narration either along with the capture or in post recorded into Vegas. Usually set my audio device buffers for 5ms latency which is more than fine for most purposes. Although it's easy enough to offset when necessary for critical manipulations.

Today AMD GPU's new Adrenalin version driver 24.9.1 was finally released

And so I installed it and almost immediately went to check Spectralayers 11, which is a very demanding program for GPU's VRAM and was having issues, mostly because this software requires 6 GBs of VRAM and is sensitive with other GPU's features.

Right away after version 24.9.1 install, all issues I was having with Spectralayers ceased to exist! Even some crashes I was experiencing under certain demanding situations have been occurring no more. I am very happy with this and my confidence with AMD GPUs will for sure return if these results hold in time.

So without further ado came to share the news, wondering if such positive results could also happen with VEGAS and help some of you fellows with AMD GPUs from the last family generation.
Bear in mind that this driver version release notes do not mention it targeting the issues I was having with that rather niche software, and still brought obvious solutions for my AMD GPU related tasks with it. Plus the fact that this fix had came more than a year after AMD classified it as part of their GPU's "known issues", could very well mean the fix had to be performed at a very fundamental level and thus could have been affecting several scattered issues at various software.
Seems worth a try.

@Cielspacing which AMD GPU do you have? I looked at your User Profile, and it's blank. Suggestion, add your computer specs to your Signature as I've did below. If there are issues, the first place I look is to see what hardware is being used.

I personally have not used AV1 in rendering in Vegas Pro 22, and with the file formats I use in editing, there was never an audio issue.

Newbie😁

Vegas Pro 22 (VP18-21 also installed)

Win 11 Pro always updated

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16 cores / 32 threads

32GB DDR4 3200

Sapphire RX6700XT 12GB Driver: 25.3.1

Gigabyte X570 Elite Motherboard

Panasonic G9, G7, FZ300

Thank you for your suggestion Reyfox. I have been migrating hardware and installing new software mainly focused on my audio work and only secondarily for the seldom video tasks I do.

As part of the former, I was considering an upgrade of motherboard for my (what I considered powerful while portable) laptop. However if this AMD GPU driver fix proves to be firm enough, I might be able to skip this upgrade for one or two years more, while still using my main software to the level I require.

This all would mean a system upgrade's pause, long enough for me to write a steady signature in this and other forums.
That stated, I am a niche usage case here. I had been on V19 and only recently bought V22 upgrade (including V21 POST), based on the maturity reached by VEGAS, with the hope to work on it for several years having most tools at hand. Later on, I might even get one of BorisFX offers that I plan to patiently keep eyeing, to complement VEGAS.

These long elongated hard and software integration times are rare and would not serve as an example to fellow forum users. On the other hand, my rather off topic focus could help me spot news and angles that might get unnoticed and be of help at some occasions. I hope this one may help at Video as it has done at some Audio, AMD GPU based, systems.

Good to see another Spectralayers user here. (I do a lot of tutorials for Steinberg).
Wouldn't it be great to have ARA support in Vegas.
