GUI: MS Letters VS Symbols

Sirio wrote on 2/14/2017, 12:05 PM

Working on V14, I still not agree with the change in the user interface with the change of the Mute and solo buttons.
Personally I found more intuitive the symbols than the two letters M and S. It's more universal.
Please, Magix, come back to the tiny symbols.

My purchase decision reflects my taste and preferences.

I did totally agree with this view, and sympathized with this view that M and S represent Mono/Stereo, and this view that M and S represent Marker/Split.

But then I found out that Premiere Pro and many audio apps like Pro Tools and Logic Pro all use M and S for Mute/Solo, so in the name of some sort of "standards" I'm more OK with them now.

However the M and S keystrokes in those audio apps do the same thing (mute/solo), while they don't in Vegas (thanks for JR for pointing that out), which is unfortunate, and you really wouldn't want to change the function of those keystrokes now.

I'm not keen on the old symbols because I don't find them intuitive, but it's not easy to come up with a better ones other than the obvious audio mute, which is universal. Would love to see some suggestions though!

You want new symbols, Nick? Just ask ! 😉
What do you think about this? And who cares about Premiere, Pro Tools. We don't need to copy !

And just to remember, the Vegas shortcuts are Z for Mute and X for Solo. Noting to do with M and S.

What do you think about this?

Which of them is Mute and which is Solo? 😕

Excellent for muting a video track, and a good match for something obvious like this for muting an audio track. What about solo?

What about solo?

A picture of the Millennium Falcon, perhaps?

Good Idea the crossed eye, or the opened/closed eye too. For the sound, if we want stay in the human body part is better use a "crossed hear".
Another solution is the classic On/Off switch:
The problem as you said is the Solo symbol! " ! "
Personally the first idea of Sonic Foundry was good.

Googling "Mute" and it's definition revels that it should only be used in conjunction with sound, speech or similar, not a good a choice for a video track. I do like the idea of a simple On/Off Switch to keep it neutral.
