I purchased this software to use for editing my new DJi osmo 4k camcorder, it only can see the audio and says it doesn't recognise MP4 File (.MP4), is there a setting I need to change, or is there a download available, thanks
MP4 is a container which can contain a number of video codec formats. Just looking at the specs for a couple of current DJI cameras, it seems that the codec used is H.264 also known as AVC. H.264 (AVC) has been around for ages and should not be a problem in Vegas Pro - and others on the forum use DJI cameras successfully in Vegas Pro.
In Vegas Pro's Explorer window, R click and one of the Osmo events and select 'Properties'. The File Properties window will show what codec is being used in 'Type' under the 'General' heading.
If it is AVC (may show as XAVC-S), then try going to Options/Preferences/File I/O (tab) and check the 'Enable lagacy AVC decoding' checkbox. You'll then have to close down and restart Vegas Pro to see if this solves the problem
Another codec possibility is H.265 (HEVC) which is a more modern codec but involves much more compression than H.264. If the video is HEVC, again in the File I/O tab, check the 'Enable experimental HEVC decoding'.
The above assumes that camera's setting are fairly much the basic default settings without extra features such as HDR enabled, and the project settings in Vegas Pro are likewise.
Should be no issue so far I know as I'm also a fan of Osmo Pocket 1 camera (haven't invest the version 3 Pocket)... but you can share one of Osmo camera sample via google drive or similar for our test.
Hi, thank you for your support, I am using Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum, all I can see in the properties is - (.MP4) The web says - The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 supports the video format, MP4 (H.264/HEVC).
I still have VMS17 Platinum installed and have found a HEVC file in my "test files" collection. It came from 3POINT a few months back and opens in my VMS17. But we need to see the Media info on Kevin's file.
This is 3POINT's GX010061 file. It opens with S04compoundplug.dll
The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 supports the video format, MP4 (H.264/HEVC).
I suspect what the specs are saying is that you have a choice of recording MP4 (AVC) or MP4 (HEVC) - this used to be the case with 4K in GoPro cameras (now its only HEVC). Maybe check the format settings in your camera to see if video recording is set to AVC or HEVC.
Hi, I can't because it doesn't see the HEVC file, however I have changed the camcorder setting to record in H.264 and this works for future video. The problem I have is I have 60GB of my daughters wedding I did last week and need to convert HEVC to H.264 if this is possible, is there a program that can do this?
@Kevin-Spalding Hi, MediaInfo works from the file on your computer,
The App is called MediaInfo, download it, it's free & a fast download with no added adverts or any of that rubbish. https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo After downloading, right click on the media file in your Windows folder, open MediaInfo, choose Text from the options at the top, Copy & paste the information in a new comment on here 👍
Update: I try searching on my Osmo Pocket 1 device settings, and can't find any codec choice option between h264 and h265 (HEVC), so looks like I'm limited with h.264 recording.
And, I curious to check the specs of Osmo Pocket 1:
H.264 works ok, it's my daughters wedding I recorded in HEVC which the software doesn't recognise.
If the video continues to not work in MSP17, the video could be transcoded to H.264 (AVC) in a free transcoder such as Handbrake or Shutter Encoder which should then enable the transcoded video to appear in MSP17.
Or upgrade to Vegas Pro 21 where HEVC is a supported format - though some have reported timeline performance issues with HEVC especially if there's lots of HEVC events on the timeline. With Vegas Pro 21 at the beginning of the year, I ended up transcoding GoPro 4K HEVC to AVC to get better timeline playback in VP21.
Here's the mediainfo data from above sample of Osmo Pocket 3 HEVC:

The MediaInfo report uploaded by @set shows under 'Other' that the format is Quicktime. I wonder if the OP needs QT activated/installed?
That file shouldn't need QT and anyway the QT plugin got broken in the last two builds of VMS17 when other audio problems were fixed. As VMS was then discontinued the QT problem never got addressed.
