You need the preview window uncovered to see the results when making adjustments in the pan/crop window. For me this works best when pan/crop window is docked beside the preview window.
Best option would be when adjustments could be done directly in the preview window instead of a separate pan/crop tool window, like in my other NLE.
@djrikki2 Would setting a custom window layout work for what you need? Put your windows where you want them, go into View -> Window Layouts -> Save Layout As and choose a slot and give it a name.
@fifonik@djrikki2 IMO saving a custom layout *does* help because when VP fails to restore the last layout or ganks it when you go into color grading, you can restore your layout with a keypress.
@fifonik You're confusing me with someone else. I never suggested using docked windows. All my layouts are floating as I'm running multi-window. Saving and restoring a layout works perfectly for me.
Saving layout resets the size of Pan/Crop window in my case without restart. Steps to re-produce:
- Open VP and add checkboard on timeline
- Open Pan/Crop window by clicking event's icon => window size is small
- Resize Pan/Crop window to required size
- Close Pan/Crop window
- Open Pan/Crop windows by clicking event's icon again => window is normal size
- Close Pan/Crop window
- View | Windows Layout | Save Layout As | specify name | OK
- Open Pan/Crop windows by clicking event's icon => window is small again
- Switch to another layout and then switch to last saved layout
- Open Pan/Crop windows by clicking event's icon => window is still small
- Resize Pan/Crop window to required size
- Close Pan/Crop window
- Open Pan/Crop windows by clicking event's icon again => window is normal size
- Close Pan/Crop window
- Restart VP
- Open Pan/Crop windows by clicking event's icon => window is still small
P.S. in the discussion that can be found from my first post it was already mentioned that the bug exist when window is closed. In known issues it is also mentioned as "[VP17+] If closed, the Video Event FX window last position & size are not remembered on exit.". In previous builds this works fine.
I dock all windows in the docking area. No issues with constantly resizing windows, opening/closing windows, no windows overlapping timeline and or preview and their position is remembered by Vegas after closure. Keeps the UI clean and workable. The only window that's not staying in the docking area is the track motion window.
