I can't select duration in timeline

Corujao wrote on 8/13/2024, 12:20 AM

Hello everybody! I have two versions (Vegas Pro 21 / Vegas Pro 22). In version 21, every time I tend to select the duration of the clips in the timeline manually with the mouse to render. However, in version 22, every time I try to select the duration, the activation of the tool buttons in the timeline (Normal Editing Tool > Selection Editing Tool) automatically changes, as I show in the video. How to fix this to stay the same in version 21? Thank you in advance.

@Corujao Tick this box in Preferences,

The new selection feature is broken & has been recognised by the Vegas team - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/clicking-anywhere-to-reposition-the-cursor-when-region-selected--146683/

If you want to indicate the length of clips in VP22 with the left button, you can in the upper part of the timeline, where the numbers are. Or as Gid wrote.

@Corujao What you see in VP22 is a mostly requested feature to be able to select events with the normal edit tool. To select/create a timeline region now with the normal edit tool, make that selection directly on the timeline ruler (as shown by @pierre-k) that makes to me also more sense, than the VP21 way.

@3POINT Better and quicker. For long time users of VP, it takes a little time to get used to. Worth it though.

I think new users appreciate this new feature mostly, because other editors work the same way. For long time Vegas users, there will always be users who have trouble to adept to new features or UI improvements, for those there's mostly the possibility to reverse those improvements in the preferences.

3POINT is correct for our reasoning in making this change. For new users coming over from other products, this was the most commented frustration as just about every other editor out there uses this action as a selection method. Even several long time users of VEGAS agreed we should make this change. We put the preference in place for those of you who are accustomed to the previous behavior.

As an long-time Vegas user I got used to it very quickly since all my other software works like that. I just wish selecting envelope breakpoints worked the same way... I often want to select the top-most breakpoints with a stringy-box and move them all at once up or down... my other software allows that kind of selection but will shift points sideways if I'm not careful.
