Intel i9 13900K and 14900K CPU's

I updated my BIOS to 2504 this morning and accepted the defaults long enough to see what was happening.

Here is a screenshot showing that Intel/ASUS appears to be controlling at the maximum temperature.

It's pointless for me to run benchmarks since I have a profound techno-philosophical issue with the concept of running core temps at the boiling point of water. I'll be offline while I plug in my control scheme.

I observed a reduction in the "predicted" voltage from the original BIOS to the last one.

Rich, you should update your BIOS to include the micro code 129 update as soon as possible as it stops the CPU asking for Core Voltages above 1.55V (this includes voltage spikes above 1.55V). The longer you leave it the greater the risk of CPU damage.

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/14/2024, 12:52 PM

Heads up for the final update code via BIOS update in case you missed it. It is the  Intel microcode 0x12B to address elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity, further mitigating Vmin Shift instability issues.
Intel say they now consider the issue resolved in saving CPUs that have not been damaged by the issue. Your warranty has been extended to 5yrs and failed CPUs can be exchanged within this extended warranty.

@andyrpsmith Thanks! I got me the final BIOS fix for the intel issue for my motherboard, not sure there were any additional fixes from the aorus master z690 beta builds (f29d, f29d) I had already installed, but this one is brand new and not beta (f29) anymore...

I'm still waiting for MSI to issue this for their z690 boards, we only got the 129 update so far.

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/17/2024, 7:15 AM

Yes I checked the MSI site, poor customer support I would say. So far I have not noticed much difference in core voltage for desk top use. The max voltage I have seen (i91300K) is 1.440V. I decided to go with performance setting rather than the default extreme (which allows a higher current). CPU still boosts to 5.8GHz and power stays within 253W max.

Checked ASUS site this morning for my motherboard and 0x12B is still in beta.

Version 2602 Beta Version 13.49 MB 2024/09/27

1.Updated with Intel microcode 0x12B to address elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity, further mitigating Vmin Shift instability issues.
2.The option to disable C1E in the BIOS has been removed to ensure it remains enabled, reducing processor stress and maintaining stability per Intel's recommendation.

Updating this BIOS will simultaneously update the corresponding intel ME to version 16.1.30.2307.
Please note after you update this BIOS, the ME version remains the updated one even if you roll back to an older BIOS later.
Before running the USB BIOS Flashback tool, please rename the BIOS file (PAZ790CW.CAP) using BIOSRenamer.
