I have a Nvidia 2080 Super GPU, would this new Intel gpu be better at encoding/decoding H.265 footage 8bit and 10bit ? Would it speed up Topaz Video AI processing?
For 10bit 422 HEVC the Intel GPUs are still the only one, supporting hardware decoding of this HEVC footage.
Similar to Intel i-GPUs in some Intel processors. But the new B580 should show a higher performance then both the i-GPUs but also nvidia GPUs. However, I know no report about practical tests with Vegas up to now.
The RTX2080 blew away the a series in the benchmarks in my signature. It's also the GPU I use and I'll see how the high end Intel GPUs perform but will likely stick with my current card.
There is talk about the next gen for Intel GPU's being announced next year. Right now I am on the fence about getting one. But... if the next one improves and is priced as right as these are, yeah...
@Richvideo I don't have a 2080 but do have a 1660ti which has the same decoding silicon. When testing an Intel a380 and a770, decoding performance was about the same as the 1660ti. While for general usage, the a770 was by far the smoothest of all the gpus I own for multicam previewing. But, as mentioned earlier, the Intels are faster decoding hevc422... but not fast enough to ever make me want to shoot that format. Fwiw, the new a580 is reputed to be quicker and on par with a 4060. Although great for decoding and rendering qsv, I don't consider the smaller Arcs like the a380 suitable for more general usage as the only gpu with Vegas. If that's what you have in mind, it might be more economical to get an a770. As for myself, I'm holding out for the a770 successor.
The gotcha is that Vegas currently doesn't let you choose a specific gpu target for renders and always seems to pick the slower igpu for qsv. So when I had an Intel igpu present, the only way I could get renders onto an Arc was to disable the igpu. Vegas also does not yet support Intel qsv hyper-rendering which teams Intel gpus and igpus.
One note, I have a 4060 mobile and the RTX2080 is faster than that for almost everything I've tried (benchmarks, Neat video, etc.) so if the new Intel GPU is on par with that it isn't an upgrade. A 4070 or 4080 would be, and prices should come down when the 50XX comes out early next year.
