MagicYUV for vp23 is out!

Got the email announcing a new version of MagicYUV a short while ago and it works like a charm in vp23! Just had to click on the link in the original email from when I purchased it to download the new version. Most painless install ever. And one of the quickest renders on my laptop that I can recall...

I think native support in Windows apps is an advantage- at least last time I checked Resolve on Windows couldn't export ProRes. With MagicYUV you could stick with the same format going between Resolve and VEGAS.

Resolve has had the ffmpeg prores_ks codec available for years as a render option, but that's not from Apple. If you choose Quicktime format, it's at the top of the codec list.


I think Apple may have recently donated a version of it's official ProRes lib to the ffmpeg project which some folks are saying omits 4444. If that's true, I see it above so that must still be the Kostya lib. I know the official Apple lib is in ffmpeg8 but I haven't tried it yet. If the official Apple libs aren't in Resolve yet, they certainly will be soon.

Resolve being on that list means that it uses the official library., and it can encode Prores under Windows for only a couple of month.

That said Magicyuv is truly lossless whereas Prores is visually lossless.

Magicyuv can't be read by every editing software (Resolve bring one of them), so not suitable for every round trip outside Vegas.

It's an excellent round trip medium for anyone using After Effects, Vegas Pro, Media Encoder and Premier Pro... The world does not revolves around Davinci Resolve.

Don't know why Resolve is being so thick, but it uses ffmpeg for it's engine and ffmpeg reads MagicYUV just fine. And the MagicYUV encoder plugin installs into Resolve just fine. So if you render MagicYUV in Resolve or Vegas and want to put it on a Resolve timeline, Resolve makes you transcode it manually with ffmpeg to a different mathematically lossless codec... the one I use is ffv1 which can take a MagicYUV avi clip and turn it into a mov or mkv lossless clip with a 10% size reduction: ffmpeg -i "ffm-magicYUV.avi" -c:v ffv1 "ffm-magicYUV.mov"

Ffv1 is great, btw, but no where near as quick as MagicYUV.

Oh I thought it worked before with Resolve. Sounds like not.

I used it for Resolve to VEGAS workflows as I used Resolve to color correct the original media.

I just installed the latest MagicYUV version 2.4.2 on Windows 11 and VP 23. I still don't know how to render a video with MagicYUV. It doesn't appear in the render menu (see screenshot). Am I missing something?
Can someone help me to figure out, how to render a video with MagicYUV, please.

You need to change a setting to show all render types.
