New AMD Drivers For Content Creators and Adrenalin Driver

Sassylola wrote on 2/28/2020, 1:20 PM

AMD released new Adrenalin driver 20.2.2. I have not installed it. I have been having good results with the Radeon™ Pro Software for Enterprise. In its describtion it states

Select this driver if you are a content creator engaged in workflows like Computer Aided Design (CAD), video editing, animation, and graphic design. Radeon™ Pro Software for Enterprise is tested against over 100 professional applications.

Built to help content creators make the best, Radeon™ Pro Software for Enterprise is designed to deliver more quality, performance, security, and simplicity.

I am running a Radeon VII and was having crashes on previous adrenaline drivers when playing 4k clips. System would go to black screen I would still hear audio. I had to restart.

Since I installed the pro drivers no crashes.

It is the third choice down on Win 10 driver selection on AMD site.

Thanks, @Sassylola that looks promising for getting the most out of a Radeon VII. Direct link to the driver page is here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-2nd-generation-vega/amd-radeon-2nd-generation-vega/amd-radeon-vii

With my Radeon RX460 and V13, projects crash on loading with this driver...had to revert to 21.19.137.1

Seems like this is for much newer/faster GPUs.

Thanks for the info.

I do not have stability issues in VP and have not found my RX 580 on the list of supported GPUs so decided not to try it. May be later...

I recently got the email alert from AMD re the release of 20.2.2 but the update has not appeared on the AMD control panel updater on my computer. After checking AMD's website for compliant graphics cards, my RX470 was not listed. So @kplo I think that you are right.

Nice, though disappointing to see it doesn't unlock 10 bit like Nvidia's studio drivers did for their cards.

AMD has supported 10bit for a long time with their "standard" drivers.

I personally haven't tried the "Pro" drivers yet and wonder what advantage do they give someone over using the "standard" drivers.

Reyfox wrote on 3/7/2020, 2:17 PM

@Dexcon are you referring to the "Pro" drivers or the regular drive. If so, 20.2.2 is listed for your card.

Also, the Pro driver too:

Thank you @Reyfox and @Sassylola … I guess I was looking at the wrong list.

And the update to 20.2.2 has since popped up on the AMD control panel, so all is good now.
