New User Interface for New Vegas Pro

Simply ....if Vegas keep using its outdate and horrible windowish dependent UI, and not supporting professional formats,  Vegas always be seen as a non professional software... In fact all the fear to change from many users is the anchor to send Vegas to the bottom of forgiveness. ITS 2017, THE MARKET HAS CHANGE, the people change, anything evolve!

One change I would like to see to the Vegas UI is for each project to remember its own default folders. The current version stores default folders as a property of the application which is a PIA when working on multiple projects. Way too many times I've rendered something and lost it. Then months later when archiving a project I've found it. I'd also like Vegas to have a simple way to "return to last cursor position". Trying to shuffle scenes in a feature length movie for the director can be painful. The ability to lock / collapse tracks would also be handy with complex projects and oodles of tracks.

As for any other changes  and to those who say "It must change or die" I'd like to hear specifics. Those who are saying "no change please" are being specific, something that the other camp are not.

I'd be horrified if the Vegas interface changed. Its simplicity, Windows-look-and-feel and obvious way of doing things are what make it so special to me. Once you get custom window and icon styles, it may look more funky and up to date but it will obscure how to get things done. I didn't even like it when the OFX style of controls came in.

I set up my editing suite environment to eliminate as much color bias as possible, such as selecting video and audio reference monitors that are black, monitor desktop backgrounds (wallpaper) that are charcoal gray, and careful lighting that is indirect and of reduced intensity.  For times when I use Resolve for color correction and grading, I always appreciate it's understated UI scheme because it fits very well into my editing environment.  Vegas seems bright by comparison, and I'd like at least the option to darken its UI without having to mess with Windows global settings.

One extreme example (overkill?) of UI flexibility is Cinema4D, which I use regularly.  It's default UI is OK, and it also is infinitely adjustable.  Not a single element in the UI, e.g., icons, regions, windows, menus, text, is without the ability to adjust color, intensity, opacity, and font where applicable.  I'm not suggesting the same for Vegas -- it took me over an hour to dial in my UI preferences in C4D -- but I would welcome more flexibility than what exists now.

Despite living with and loving Vegas Pro 12 since its release, I decided to take the offer from Magix and buy V.13 and get V.14 free. (This also meant I had to say goodbye to Windows Vista and enter the world of Windows 10, but that's not the point here.)

Having installed V.14 I find that the UI has indeed changed in that the buttons I used very often, e.g. the Edit Tool type, Lock Envelopes to Events, have now been placed on the Timeline Toolbar. This I don't like, since I usually have a large floating Video Preview window which now covers these buttons, so I'm having to move the window around to get at the buttons. They used to be so convenient for me up at the top on the Toolbar there.

I can't find a preference or method to move the buttons up there, I guess there isn't one?

Anyone else find this to be a nuisance change?

Please Magix - a small update to allow more flexibility with the positioning of these buttons would be most welcome, to me at least.

Correct

I agree. I would like the ability to customize both those toolbars including the possibility to put any button (including scripts and extensions) on neither, either or both of them. Floatable toolbars would be nice too.

I also agree and find the moving of these somewhat "traditional" icons on the menu from the top to the bottom rather annoying and wish that we had the option of placing them where we want.

I also dislike the change of the Mute and Solo bottons from the familiar icons to the letters "M" and "S". For me, in Vegas, "M" means "Marker" and "S" means "Split". So while I can get familiar with the changes, I'd rather see the development efforts applied towards something more useful. It feels like change for change's sake and fixing something which wasn't broken.

I feel like I'm reading one of those poorly translated manuals.

For Magix is very important to update the interface in the first versions! The first impression is very important! A new feelings, new emotions, a new experience - this all about UI. Even if Vegas 14 will be very fast and stable, it will be the same old Vegas . This must change! This is what people will pay - a sense of novelty!

Well, if they do that, I certainly hope they make the changes optional. I like the existing interface and it is one of the reasons I use Vegas.

sadly, i'm spending my editing software $$ on an alternative which takes advantage of the GTX970 processor that should have never been a problem with Vegas -- pre or post Sony... that will remain the same until I get a some pretty solid proof that Magix has saved the day.

Please stay on the topic, which is about the INTERFACE. If you wish to discuss GPU-acceleration, there are many existing threads on that subject.

I only have one complaint in reference to Vegas Pro interface, to be specific the timeline visibility I think it needs to be improved somehow, for example when I do cuts in the timeline it's not so obvious where they are unless I hightlight each one of them, it kind of hard to distinguish them apart tbh

I really agree with that, I just finished a big project and even composite envellopes where difficult to be distinghished. The same for the events/region that are muted and another annoying thing is how color of events/tracks seems to be applied without any consistency or logic. I really would like to be able to give a color to events independantly of the color at the track level (that doesnot seems to work for me anyway), even if it has to be just a colored line around the event.

I for sure would like a darker, new polished icons for the UI in the next version. The layout should not be changed, only darker interface, and new icons.

Darker?!! How darker than 100% black can you get?
