For the first time I just rendered an AC3 in VP15 B216 from a 58 minute mixed audio Event Project. Initially it did present me with an activation window for my DOLBY Selected Render Template. It played fine in DVDA and VSO s/w. Where are you playing it?

@Grazie It's when an existing file gets overwritten that there was/is a bug. I had this bug in VP15 build 177, tested with mp3 and ac3, but build 216 fixed it. I'm on Windows 10. @gjesion When you say "back", when did you previously see this bug?

gjesion wrote on 10/21/2017, 11:44 AM

Nick,

By back, I meant that I saw in one of your previous posts that the bug had been fixed. I only have VV 15 from Magix.

These bug fixes in this build do not appear in the above official notes:

This bug was discovered by other moderators in VP15 build 177 shortly before build 216 came out. In 216, I no longer have the issue. So we never made a new post about it, and I just added it to the release notes post as an unofficial bug that had been fixed.

If you're still getting this issue, maybe it's related to Windows 7? I'm on Windows 10.

Anyone else getting this bug? To test, just make a render in ac3 or mp3, then make another one to overwrite it.

NickHope wrote on 10/21/2017, 7:46 PM

Thanks Cornico. And you're on Win 10, so Win 7 doesn't seem to be the common factor.

Anyone else? Testing takes a couple of minutes only.

Grazie wrote on 10/22/2017, 12:06 AM

Win7 here, can’t repro, so you might have it Nick.

gjesion wrote on 10/22/2017, 8:42 AM

Another data point. Just installed 15 on my Win 10 Pro computer. Issue still exists.

Jerry

@Wolfgang S. Did build 216 fix this issue for you?

Please, others test this. It only takes a moment:

  1. Render a short mp3 or ac3 file
  2. Check that the rendered file is audible
  3. Render another short mp3 or ac3 file using the same name to overwrite the first file
  4. Check if the rendered file is audible or silent
  5. Report findings here (stating which version of Windows and VP14/15 you used)

@Nick - For Win7 too?

Yes please

Grazie wrote on 10/23/2017, 1:57 AM

Win7 Pro here.

Both initial 58 minute long AC3 and MP3 played, and then their overwrites played too. No issues here

The MP3 needed to activate. Would that be an instance of "Phone-home"?:

Thanks Grazie. It's a phone-home, but that's just additional activation of codecs, which has always been required as a one-off operation in VP14 & 15, and has never been in dispute.

Wanted to throw my hat into the ring. I'm having the same issue - just installed Vegas Pro 15 Edit, Win 7 Pro 64-bit, overwrote an mp3 file to silence. When I deleted the existing file and rendered out to a new one, the audio rendered normally.

Which build of Vegas Pro 15 do you use?

wilvan wrote on 3/7/2018, 3:20 PM

@ Nick :

When I understand this well , one is obliged to render out to all kind of codes online so that everything in vegas pro gets activated and one can then work without internet unless once per month a reactivation of the program itself requires internet again ?

Gosh , seems to me Magix being a little paranoid about activations and re-activations . They also seem to forget one sometimes does some pre-work in the field where there is no internet nor wifi . ( and win10 unwanted updating when online )

A list of this required " to do before leaving internet " might help , maybe ?

@wilvan The initial activations are a matter of economics, because this system means that some codecs are only paid for when users actually use them. That helps keep Vegas viable. FAQ #10 has a list of the codecs, and you can also use altarvic's script.

Hi there, reporting in that I am having the same issue with rendering mp3 files while overwriting. I end up with a silent file. I'm running Vegas Pro 15 Build 216 on Windows 10. Very new box with plenty of grunt. Cheers

Does it still happen if you update to build 321?

matt-nice wrote on 3/30/2018, 2:28 AM

Does the same in 311 version. When you overwrite the file with the same name there is no audio just a flat line. Also no audio when played on VLC....  Windows 10 1709 build 16299.309

NickHope wrote on 3/30/2018, 4:38 AM

Still no problem here in VP15 build 321 on Windows 10 version 1511 (Win Update is off) when overwriting an ac3 or mp3 files.

NickHope wrote on 5/24/2018, 1:40 AM

Still with the same build (321), I am now seeing this problem for both ac3 and mp3 files. No idea why I am seeing it now but not before. Windows Update has been off all the time.

Here is a test procedure for mp3 (using 2 public domain files):

  1. Download Anonymous_-_03_-_Birma_Kurda.mp3
  2. Restart VP15.
  3. Download Lee_Rosevere_-_38_-_The_Future_of_Music.mp3 and put it on the VP15 timeline.
  4. Click File > Render As > MP3 Audio > 192 Kbps, CD Transparent Audio > Browse...
  5. Navigate to where you saved Anonymous_-_03_-_Birma_Kurda.mp3 > select it > Save > Yes (to replace) > Render > Yes (to overwrite)
  6. The rendered file Anonymous_-_03_-_Birma_Kurda.mp3 is now silent.

Please test this and report your findings on this thread.

I have reported this issue [Ticket#2018052417001471], and will add it to the Known Issues post.

Note that there is related discussion also in these posts:

@NickHope : I followed your directions, and, well, I get Audio but it is playing at a different speed??? 😟

Grazie wrote on 5/25/2018, 2:29 AM

O..K... I've still got post render Audio and NOW I realise that the Rosevere audio IS a slower piece. But yes, the render isn't silent.

OK - The Rendered MP3 is NOT Silent. It has the Rosevere Content with the "Anonymous . . . . .mp3" filename name, which, I'm reckoning is how it should be?
