When I add a Picture In Picture, the square does not wrap around the object. Instead, it has a massive space around the object which makes altering the size and shape of the object very difficult.
Hi, sometimes problems like this can be because the media is the wrong size in Pan/crop, but I tried it out in the pictures below so I don't think that's the reason for the problem.
Original
Match to output Aspect ratio the size/height would have to be corrected,
I copy the height from the original then paste after Match to output Aspect ratio
@beaverbrook Hi, you have another fx added to the project,?
When I compare both screen shots from first post and this post, I could imagine that @beaverbrook messed around with trackmotion or applied also a PIPfx to the preview.

@3POINT Hi, adding some Track Motion is the only way I can make this happen, but adding PinP to the preview affects everything & there's no keyframe gap below his top track to indicate Track Motion has changed,

My original problem involved messing around with track motion, yes. But let's start over again...
I deleted all tracks and added them again. The first thing I see, is that the video preview window is small. Although the picture is a reasonable size within the small window.
After doing that basic action, I add the "Picture In Picture" to the top picture track and then get this.
So the picture seems to get smaller, while the small video preview window stays the same. I haven't added anything else beyond this point or messing with any buttons or settings that I am aware of.

Yes, I did have a track mothion FX in there. I wish there were a list that showed ALL the FX in the entire project, so I don't miss anything.
Regardless, if I delete it, or even delete everything and start over, I still get the same problem as before. The image is small and the Picture and Picture does not wrap around the object for manipulation.

As I mentioned before, you probably also applied PIPFX to the preview. That is what your preview shows.
Ok, I scrapped everything and started a new project. The first thing I did was put this mp4 into the timeline. For some reason, some of the picture is blacked out.
This might be the root of the problem.

@beaverbrook You've done ore than just add PinP, as mentioned you've got an FX applied to both tracks, the gap at the bottom of track 1 implies some Track Motion has been added, & there's an FX added to the project, shown on the fx with a blue circle at he top of the preview window.
And how does it go if you start a new project after set in the menu View/Window Layouts to the Default Layout?

@beaverbrook You two commented while i was typing,
Again there's more added, there's an fx on track 1 & the gap under track 1 shows Track Motion is added,

If I start from defualt window and start new project and add in the two assets and try not to change anything I get a small preview because the crop is all weird and messed up and I have no idea why.
*edit* I tried to record with Vegas, it makes no difference at all. The video is still loaded with a messed up crop.
Just as a matter of interest, does the imported image have the same size (e.g.1920x1080, 3840x2160 etc) as your project's size as per Project Properties? If not, has "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" been checked 'on' in Project Properties before importing that image onto the timeline?

Both Videotracks have a crop function, very strange because I'm not seeing that at using the default lay-out. Did you already did a complete reset of Vegas?

The image is 512x512, so it is square and not 1920x1080 like the project.
Yes, I do have "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" checked to "on".

Ok, so that is not normal? Nice to know. Every time I add a video track, there is a "crop" effect added and I does not give an option to delete it. I don't know what "a complete reset" means. I started a "new" project. Do I have to do a reset?
@beaverbrook Hi, if I do this in the picture, right click - Set Default Track Properties with Crop applied on the track, when I open a new project Crop is already applied, Tick Restore Original Defaults to get rid of that Crop FX
