Please Follow Microsoft Path To Improve VEGAS Pro.

Like Microsoft has worked on Windows 10 for a long time. They fix a large number of bugs & do lots of big improvements and make windows 10 a stable & smooth window till now.

so VEGAS pro should at least stop on VEGAS 20 now till all the old new or unknown bugs got fixed.

I have VEGAS Pro Edit 15 Version one time purchase copy, which runs so good, very low bugs & crashes but it have.

but after VEGAS 15 all the version came in VEGAS software series are became irritating day by day.

i am using these days VEGAS Post EDIT

sometime my VEGAS got hanged without any reason in simple projects.

that's not only irritating but so unprofessional.

so please fix all old crashes & bugs till VEGAS 20.

otherwise don't update Vegas ahead, in my opinion.

They are! Every version of 19 has been more stable than the previous one. I'm sure version 20 will be more stable than my last version of 19.

@jetdv .. I agree. Each new version of Vegas since Magix took over has been better, more stable, and with smoother preview. Of course, my hardware has been updated too and admittedly I don't really push the limits when it comes to Video and Audio FX .. nor do I require more than the standard codexs.

Not to mention, we have to be realistic about it... they have to keep the paychecks flowing. When you stop releasing new versions with new features, the money stops flowing, because all the competitors are still cranking out new versions with new features... there's a balance that must be struck, you can't just freeze production on all new features to rebuild the program from the ground up, as much as they'd love to be able to. Microsoft makes a ton of money from services that Windows enables, or that are unrelated to Windows (like cloud computing, gaming, etc), so what works for them doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Same applies for NLE developers that also are trying to sell you hardware, and can invest millions from those hardware sales into development of software that helps steer users towards more of their hardware (if only Sony had realized the gold mine they were sitting on there... and had taken the same approach of bundling VEGAS with all their hardware and heavily funding its development to increase hardware sales).

I bought Vegas Pro 15 for hardware encoding and still started all my projects in Vegas Pro 13-453. I ignored Vegas Pro 16 for the whole product cycle and abandoned all previous versions for Vegas Pro 17. I used Vegas Pro 18 for a while. Meh!

Meh! is a good thing. If it does my job, who cares.

I currently use Vegas Pro 19 exclusively, and like it so much that I am currently dual-booting with Vegas Pro 19-643* in a boot image all to itself with everything else in an image in case someone ever asks about it.

I'm way out over my skis for what I really need in an NLE since I've lost all camera lust except for possibly the Canon EOS R5 C.

* I'm not happy about Happy Otter Scripts being broken in Vegas Pro 19.

VP15 was not stable, but what made it stable for you?

The answer is probably you weren't using the buggy hardware decoding, because in VP15 it could not use external GPU's, only intel's IGPU's, but back then using the IGPU was not straight forward, needed to be turned on in bios, needed intel drivers loaded, needed a monitor plugged into motherboard video port.

So it's possible what made VP15 so stable for you was the lack of GPU decoding. With current versions in the same scenario Vegas will automatically use your video cards GPU decoder if it can't use your intel IGPU. They never fixed the GPU decoding problems, so turn GPU decode off. With your 4 core CPU that is not ideal but if you are still editing the same resolution/frame rate footage from VP15 days it may work for you

Technically Yes, at least till all old major bugs got fixed. At least for 1 year. I know its not possible, but in my opinion its necessary. Because Dev team have to work on new features & bugs both at same time. but if Devs got 1 year for no new version just for bugs fixes & stability then it will work well in my opinion.

- Ctrl+Z (Undo/Redo) is still lagging or sometimes cause crash on heavy projects mostly.

- Crash on 33% rendering progress is still on in my projects. (in different projects not on same)

- Importing Large Number of Files showing some unprofessional lagging thing (so old bug or limitation I am complaining about it from VP15). It doesn't happened in other software. Watch it below..

- Sometime crashes randomly without any reason, no heavy projects or anything else.

- I have to change the settings of (so4) to FALSE internal settings, otherwise my lagging problem never ends.

- I have 16GB ram and i assign 5gb of RAM to Vegas. But it never show me that 5GB result.

VEGAS should understand their users problems. Because I am the one of them who want to see VEGAS Pro growing in world. I am a Trainer and I teaches my students VEGAS Pro only other than Adobe premier or anything else.

My main point is, there should be new features, new versions and new bugs too (coz every software have bugs & crashes), but not like old bugs are still there and some new bugs more came. This is irritating guys.

VEGAS should work on at least on its stability more than new features.

that's my point.

@iEmby, I would strongly recommend you try VEGAS Pro 20 when it's released later this month.

RogerS wrote on 8/2/2022, 7:39 AM

Don't assign 5GB of ram to Vegas if you only have 16GB. 5% is the default in 19 for dynamic preview (it was 200MB up to 18), which is just one use Vegas has for ram.

Take a look at the release history for the focus of the developers. It clearly is not in new features these days: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-vegas-post-release-history--104998/

That said I also have issues with lagging, especially with a large number of text events.
I also have too frequent freezes which is very annoying.

Welcome in club.
I pointed out this error already in 2020.
Apparently it doesn't bother anyone else.

VP11 was the last fastest version in terms of user experience. Many of the bugs that persist to this day originated in VP12.

If you have MsMpEng.exe hammering your media while you are trying to open 5000 PNG files,

you might consider excluding your media folders or disks from virus scans.

Use this as a rough guide:

@ john_dennis Sound advice

Another NLE I use (GV Edius) insists on excluding specific folders. Have applied same logic to Vegas over the years and never experienced slow loading of VP. If a full scan is required MS 'MSERT' does the job

Not quite sure, I've never seen VEGAS do anything like that before. Try a GPU driver update? Use the utility in the VEGAS help menu, it'll pick out the best one.

@iEmby yes, the latest AMD drivers are at fault here. Rolling back to the previous one, 22.5.1 will fix this problem. I rarely update my AMD drivers unless they fix something that is not working for me. I also found that in gaming, the latest drivers aren't as smooth as before.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 8/6/2022, 2:06 PM

Saw a big issue with 22.7.1 drivers on a test machine too. 5700xt. Turned my red car blue as I resized the preview window in vp19. Reverted to 22.5.1 and it's red again.
