Post Production Settings for Vegas Pro

Cliff Etzel wrote on 2/20/2017, 6:00 PM

Now that I've gotten the Vegas2Handbrake to work, I'm remembering some of the other issues around how Vegas handles final renders ie; contrast/gamma issues when rendering directly in Vegas to one of the integrated codecs. Does the same thing occur when using the Vegas2Handbrake script? Is there something I need to do as a plugin chain that is in the preview window to make sure there's no shift in gamma/contrast? The one thing I have loved about PPro CS6 is that I didn't have to do anything before rendering out my projects - WYSIWYG for each and every render. I'd like to make sure I get the same thing in Vegas Pro 13.

Any hints and advice on getting as smooth a transition as possible from PPro to Vegas Pro?

@OldSmoke - So activate the plugin at the preview window area - and then set to PC? (My primary delivery is to the web) - should I make any other adjustments to levels, etc while monitoring the scopes to make sure I fall within legal limits? May seem rudimentary to ask this but I've been in PPro for so long, I'm needing to rethink the process for editing in Vegas to make it as efficient as possible since much of my paying work has 48 hour turn around times for delivery of first edits..

You can read the FQA section about level and  SeMW extensions.  As Oldsmoke says this does the trick.  Highly recommend it.

OK - I've installed the SeMW Extensions, but they aren't showing up in my Extensions Menu - I have verified that they are installed but I am not seeing them within Vegas Pro 13 v545 - Any ideas why?

Not sure if this the place it is meant to be (don't have Vegas Pro available right now). In general an extension could also be found in the Edit and in the View menu.

Nothing there either

You might check if them are installed to the path:

 C:\ProgramData\Vegas Pro\Application Extensions\

Try "C:\Users\userX\Documents\Vegas Application Extensions" and make sure all files are "unlocked".

Nothing in the Documents folder with that name...

You have to create it if it doesn't exist. Helped me getting some other extensions to work. Also the C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Vegas" folder and again make sure you all .dll are unlocked.

So the only place those SeMW files reside is in "C:\ProgramData\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions" - should I copy those files into the newly created folders. Not sure what to do next though - Unlock the DLL's??? What does that mean?

Will this get Vegas to recognize the extension? What a PITA....

Just got back to my computer. My SeMW is here

Unlocking is done by right click on the dll under the security tab at the bottom. If you don't see an "Unlock" checkbox that would mean it's already unlocked. I do not remember having issues with the SeMW extension because it has an installer. Have you tried running the installer as Administrator?

I'm using the last version of Vegas Pro 13 build 545 that's been rebranded by Magix - here's the same tool bar with nothing showing other than PluralEyes.

Yes - I installed as Administrator on more than one occasion and they do appear to be all unlocked - I'll give the install one more try and see what happens

**Update - Uninstalled and reinstalled as Admin - no change**

I had similar issues with the "ShowRecDat" extensions. Try and copy all the SeMW files to "C:\Users\username\Documents\Vegas Application Extensions" and also "C:\Users\usernam\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions" again making sure it's all "unlocked". I hope one will stick.

URGH! Still not working - have verified all DLL's as unlocked...

Have tried you restarting your PC?

You can always put a "Levels" FX in the video bus with these settings

Just disable it befor rendering. That is what the extensions does automatically, it disables the FX before rendering, even when frame serving to Handbrake.

Edit:

I just downloaded the extensions again from the SeMW website and noticed that the EXE file is actually locked. If yours is locked too, unlock it before running the installer.

Was trying to avoid any additional steps as I'm forgetful these days... I do have the option when adding the levels FX but I"m guessing that's not the same thing. Yes have restarted my PC but will give it another shot and see what happens since I've made all these folders now...

What's odd is the SeMW Auto Levels effect is showing in my FX options...

It is not an effect but you may find the "PC", "TV" and "Original" preset in your Levels FX; or may not.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions

C:\Users\username\Documents\Vegas Application Extensions

C:\ProgramData\VEGAS Pro\Application Extensions
