Well lit, cutting was crisp and the talent stuck close to the writers script.

FWIW, I always hate it when a commercial says it uses “real people” as opposed to actors. As if we somehow weren’t real people.

Well done, xberk! It caught my eye for being not another tree filled "filmed in the local park because it is the easiest, least disruptive location, indie film". I missed the ending somehow and have to watch it again.

Ok. You asked for it. Since I retired, I've done a mountain of Home Video -- mostly "trip video". This short piece (3 min) seems appropriate to that sort of work where nothing is planned and the shooting is all done on the fly. It's always a challenge to "make something" out of it later in the editing.

I ain't one of them fancy wine Conny-sewers, but I believe you're supposed to inspect the cork from a freshly-opened bottle to determine whether or not the cork is completely intact. If it isn't intact, some of the cork most likely fell into the wine, which indicates the cork didn't properly seal the bottle, quite possibly making the wine rancid. Smelling the cork is a common mistake.

Note to self (everyone else please look away -- the note that follows is a reminder for mine eyes only): Figure out a clever, kick-booty signature that suggests I'm completely aware of how to properly and exhaustively party on and that I, in fact, engage in said act on a frequent and spontaneous basis. All joking aside, listing my computer's properties is a futile endeavor. I edit multimedia in a local television station newsroom that has Vegas Pro installed on several machines with widely varied specs. We began editing non-linearly with Pinnacle Studio Version 8. That didn't last long before we upgraded to Vegas Video Version 4, then to Vegas Pro 10.

This is one I recently completed. I shot it in Wuhan, China, in an area called Hubu Alley--a food street. So you think you know Chinese food? This ain't your grandma's Chinese cooking....unless you happen to be from China. Done with MVP 16.

Len Kaufman wrote on 11/5/2018, 11:08 AM

Here's another one I did recently: Xi'an, China. Xi'an is famous for the "Terracotta Warriors." But there's more to Xi'an than the Terracotta soldiers. Done with MVP 15.

A lot of people have been to Alaska on the "big ships." But I feel, until you've done it on a small vessel, you really haven't experienced Alaska. This was done with MVP 15. Please subscribe and click on the "thumbs up" (like) button, unless you hate it.

Impressive pictures, but why did you use that ugly fade to black transition between every scene?

john_dennis wrote on 11/6/2018, 1:03 PM

"...why did you use that ugly fade to black transition between every scene?"

Aside from any aesthetic sensibility, fade to or through black causes higher peak bit rates which gives the streaming services one more thing to pitch a fit over.

Here is a bit rate graph of the same project rendered with straight cuts and with a one second fade to-from black.

Youtube handles the change of scenes with fewer artifacts using straight cuts than with fades.

      Full Disclosure

  • As someone who watched slide shows from a projector with actual slides, the one-second fade to - from black between still pictures works for me.
  • 2.32 to 2.43 of the Alaska video didn't work for me because the subject didn't change. There was no reason to use a transition, (fade to black or otherwise) to show the progress of the boat toward the waterfall.
  • I'm now prepared to have every video of my grandchildren that I post picked apart ad infinitum.

Big fan of Vegas since 2000, I believe is when I first discovered the software in it's Sonic Foundry form. Back then...I actually wrecked a few hard drives trying to render experimental video art pieces as AVIs. I was a little ahead of my time and the maturation of the technological eco-system...gosh what can't we do today - with Vegas and a few sfxs?

And without further ado...here is The Incredible Bulk https://1drv.ms/v/s!AsSm2OvH_zG-gYEeI-jg8lm9LTR_Ug an 8 minute 3d animation gesamtkunstwerk total work of art. It's a parody of the 70s TV show The Incredible Hulk lol presented in sonata form...yes the music is modern - guitars, even 808s kick drums.

All the compositing and sfxs were done in Vegas, the music, which I also did I created with Sonar and Notion 6, and the animation was created in Blender 3d. Basically I did everything, and it took 5 months of almost 12 hour days 7 days a week.

Enjoy Ben

PS it's R rated. Just in case, I don't want anyone to die from a heart attack!
