Preview window my video is jerky (slow motion)

Jean-Guy-Breton wrote on 1/21/2022, 1:01 PM

Hello, I own Vegas Pro 19. When I import video media to create my project, in the preview window, my video is jerky (slow motion) Auto or full, nothing to do... I didn't have this problem at the beginning of last week when I purchased the upgrade from license 17 to pro 19.

See if this thread helps you

Otherwise we need more information from you - start at B and C:

Enter the information about your system in your profile under "Signature", then you don't need to ask again in the future.(See as an example my signature or those of others).

No, I don't understand because it's the video that I imported into my project, and that, in my preview window, turns to the ralanti or as jerky.

@walter-i. Perhaps the wrong link posted https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

@Jean-Guy-Breton You don't want to chat but you've shared 0 info, so in the link i've put, B & C are details about your PC & details about the video you are trying to work with in Vegas, these need to be shared so someone can help you,

it's fairly simple,

1. You've put the CPU for your PC, but the graphics card (GPU) is needed, right click on the Start button on your desktop, Device Manager, it'll be in there.

2. Download MediaInfo, it's free https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

right click on the media in your folder, open MediaInfo, select Text from the View option, right click select all & copy, then paste in a comment here,

But this had already been done, maybe update his page. I don't know... The shooting of my videos were made with a samsung galaxy S9 high resolution 16.9 UHD 3840 v 2160 (60 fps) I had the Vegas 17 version and I never had a problem with the preview. My problem is there, the preview. my imported media is like very slow and jerky.

Ok it's my video taking that's too heavy, right? Because if I take another video in mp4 1920 x 1080 then I have no problem. Is it possible to integrate heavier UHD 3840 v 2160 (60 fps) video???

Based on your computer's specification, it is highly likely that the problem you are experiencing is due to your computer being significantly under-powered for 4K editing in Vegas Pro 19. Please see the minimum specs here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu

For 4K, the minimum recommended is a 7th gen i7 CPU with 32GB RAM. Your computer is 3 generations earlier, an i5 and has less than 40% of the recommended RAM.

Further, although you haven't posted as requested a MediaInfo report on the media that you are using, it is fairly likely that it is Variable Frame Rate (VFR) rather than Constant Frame Rate (CFR). This is because phones typically use VFR instead of CFR. If you search the forum using the term 'variable frame rate', you'll find many posts over many years about difficulties of getting VFR media to work successfully in Vegas Pro (many versions). The main recommendation with VFR media has long been to transcode it to CFR via a utitlity such as Handbrake https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

Probably, the combination of VFR media on an under-powered computer for Vegas Pro 19 is resulting in the poor preview window performance.

VP 18 and 19 don't support the:

PROCESSEUR Intel® Core™ i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz with its

GRAPHIQUES Intel® HD Graphics 4600

So you lose GPU decoding most likely which is the problem.

I'd stay with 17 until you update your system or do what's recommended and re-encode your media with Handbrake so it's easier for Vegas to process.

Dexcon wrote on 1/24/2022, 6:06 AM

Until I updated my computer about 15 months ago (new specs in signature), 4K in Vegas Pro 18 struggled on my then i7-4770 computer - but then it had a fairly decent but somewhat out-of-date AMD RX480 GPU. But if your computer doesn't meet the minimum specs, you are likely to miss out on the AI VFX offered by Vegas Pro 19. AI VFX certainly didn't work on my i7-4770 computer. Of course, if you don't need the AI VFX, then that won't be a concern.

The sad reality is that new release software often relies on evolving computer technology.

@Dexcon until GPU prices change, I will be "stuck" with my "somewhat but now more so, out of date" RX480 8GB.
