Problems with Nvidia driver 526.98

j-v wrote on 11/30/2022, 1:44 PM

Others and me are seeing with this driverversion problems with the preview screen in the latest VPro (and VMS) versions by not seeing changes with
- FX untill the FX window is closed (video 1)
- some Media Generators untill closing that window (video 2)
- overlays on the preview screen (no video)

No idea what exact the reason is because it only happens at me with laptop from signature and not on my desktop, all with default settings.
The solutions I found are:
1. Choose another driverversion. f.i. the former 522.30 or...
2. Change at Options/Preferences/Video the GPU acceleration to another GPU (if possible) if you don't use D(eep)L(earning)M(odels)

I did have exactely the same issue on my laptop as @j-v with the latest Nvidia Studio driver.

It looks like there is a bug with the latest laptop drivers. I would suggest not to update and stay with the 522.30 version

I didn't know Nvidia release laptop drivers and desk top drivers?

To search out older and beta Nvidia drivers go here:

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

To see the versions for my laptop with a mobile 3060, I set the fields like this and get this:

I overlooked it was a laptop Nvidea driver issue, that is why it was working for me, maybe a long shot, instead of stepping back to an older studio version, maybe install a newer (regular = non-studio) version for your laptop. Nobody is forced to use studio drivers; I have used the regular drivers often successfully for video work in the past as I sometimes forget to switch back from gaming. The same applies the other way around.

The advantage of regular drivers is that they are newer, and contain bug fixes which are not yet in the studio drivers.

That's also the problem with them, they are not as well tested and the interim fixes are generally for gaming.

That is my experience also, never had an issue with gaming drivers with Vegas but I have for a few years been using Studio drivers which have been fine with gaming.

There was a bad Game ready driver that affected both Resolve and Vegas in January 2021, but if you had always used Studio drivers this is rare situation that some Vegas users see a problem now, but not everyone nothing like the problem that was that Game Ready driver which was very bad as it was insidious, it wasn't apparent it even was a GPU driver fault

@j-v there is a new studio driver out: 527.56, you may try this one.

Maybe a tip , you can try this , over here it works ;-)

I also tried the new driver and again I got problems with things like PIP

It only reacts when you close the effect window and so on ....

But if I set the gpu to off , everythings works perfectly , no crashes or probems over here

You have to reboot Vegas again before it works

I know that, and with me it helps also to set at Pref. Video my other GPU to use.
But for more than one reason I like to stay as close as possible in Vegas to all defaults settings and therefore I have in this case to use a little older driverversion for the NVidia

Same here on my Asus laptop... fixed reverting back to 522.30.

Former user wrote on 12/9/2022, 3:54 PM

It even blanks out the screen at Best/FUll setting after selecting a lower resolution.

But if I set the gpu to off , everythings works perfectly , no crashes or probems over here

That causes Vegas to crash for me, and at least 1 other user here when adding the effect

Driver is studio 527.56, the December release.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 4/10/2023, 5:23 PM

One of the Vegas developers came up with workaround affecting Vegas previews on laptops with Nvidia updates since driver v522.30:

I've been playing around with it on my laptop with 3060 gpu and it's not quite as smooth resizing the preview screen as the older drivers when I uncheck the preview option "Display at project size" which makes playback the smoothest. But it cures the problem of not displaying certain fx (eg, pip fx) until fx properties are closed. As well as the preview screen distorting when resized or not being displayed during renders.

Rednroll wrote on 4/10/2023, 6:28 PM

I guess this is something I'll get to look forward to with my new laptop unless Nvidia gets it fixed before then. Those seeing the issue not present with driver v522.30, are you using the Studio driver or the Game driver version?

RogerS wrote on 4/10/2023, 10:27 PM

I don't think there is a difference between the studio and game version of 522.30 but used studio.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 4/14/2023, 9:05 AM

Tested the 531.61 driver update and it has the same preview window problems as other updates since 522.30. Good news is the Nvidia Control Panel settings illustrated above still fixes it.

Also tested creating a custom profile for Vegas in the Nvidia Control panel and that works too. If you run games or other software, that will keep the Vegas setting from hindering their performance.

Thank you for posting the solution. Unfortunately your pic is so small that it is impossible to read anything. Clicking on it opens up the same thumbnail. No chances to see it. Could you write pls what options give this workaround solution?

jetdv wrote on 5/1/2023, 4:40 PM

@alex-v Try this one.

alex-v wrote on 5/1/2023, 4:49 PM

Oh yes!!! It works as a charm! ) Funny thing is, that before seeing the full size pix, I tried to guess the option and chose this one, but instead of compartibility tried performance.

Thanks again! It was really nasty without the active preview window, and I didn't feel like downgrading the drivers.

I just checked and that older driver  522.30 is no longer available for download on that NVIDIA page. I tried the Open GL "Compatible" option in INVIDIA and it didn't *seem* to help, then under "Programs" in NVIDIA I added Vegas 20 and selected Open GL "Compatible" specifically for that program, and that DID fix the problem for me. (Just mentioning it in case it helps someone else. I'm using RTX 3060 Notebook)
