Rendering Stills

DavidFG wrote on 12/31/2025, 5:51 PM

Hi, I am trying to render a movie which has video tracks plus a track containing still images. Everthing renders fine except the stills which goes blank on rendering.

I have tried changing many settings to no avail - have I missed something basic?

Screenshot of your timeline might help. Also, including your computer specs in your Signature in your User Profile might help along with any GPU driver you have. Read this POST and provide information from "B" and "C".

I just finished editing and rendering a "year in review" video with lots of images and video on my computer listed in the Signature below. One issue I did have was when using AMD VCE, some of the images were badly pixelated. I wound up rendering in AV1 with no issues and a much smaller rendered file size. This was in spite of during rendering and watching the preview, the still images displayed properly.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I have updated my signature and added screen shots as suggested.

I sorted a work-around in the meatime - I rendered the stills track by itself and added the .mp4 file as another track (not shown below).

@DavidFG

Try again pls.

Shared picture is too small, everything is blurred when that shared picture is enlarged. There's an image in the Vegas preview even tho you say it renders black? & the timeline cursor isn't seen on the timeline?. People will help but that picture tells the members nothing.

----------

I rendered the stills track by itself and added the .mp4 file as another track

The second picture looks the same as the first except the track is unmuted. Where's the mp4 of the rendered stills? Also you said the pictures rendered 'blank' so how did you render it.. ? 🤷‍♂️

A better pic below. Forget the renedered stills track - that is a separate workaround. The issue is that the stills track won't render when included in the render of the full movie even though they show in the preview prior to render. Also, see previous post for render settings.

It is curious however, that when rendered alone, the stills track renders ok. Is the problem because of the different source formats between the video track and the stills track?

@DavidFG Thanks better picture but still doesn't say much.

Click the three dots on the track header - 'Edit visible buttons'. There maybe a Compositing option chosen or an fx you've accidently dropped on a track.., showing more buttons helps recognise that.. (red arrow pointing to Compositing mode)

Like this

@DavidFG Ok just to be clear, I'm still on VP22 so can't test any issues with VP23. I posted above to help you to others to help you.. if that makes sense 🤣

  • The Pictures you shared that I've quoted look normal enough, I don't see anything that would cause your render problem.
  • You're using VP23 on Windows 11, that's not a problem but it's poss your GPU or driver are causing problems. -
  • Try disabling your GPU in Preferences - General &/or also in File IO so VP23 uses your CPU (IGPU) to render.
  • The render options have (NVENC) & Mainconcept, try both.. (This window is different in VP23 but I don't know if the 'Customize Template has changed)..
  • Update or roll back your Driver. There's been posts about issues with 591.44 (or 591.94🤷‍♂️)
  • Share the properties of the images you're trying to render, maybe there's something about those causing problems. Right click the image - Properties.

The tracks are not grouped in your images?

PS. There's no reason why you can't have your images on track 4, I don't want to spk for him but I think EricLNZ was just curious..

I wouldn't have thought source differences would make any difference, but It is interesting that it is your images that don't render & they are on a separate track, that sort of implies it's a track issue of some kind, Compositing maybe..?

I'd also try the following to try and get to the bottom of the track mystery.

  1. Move the stills up to Track 3 with the video clips and render to see if the stills appear
  2. Put something else, maybe one of the video clips, on Track 4 and render to see if it appears.

@DavidFG What Eric says &/or if you do want your images on a separate track, drag your images down onto track 5, delete track 4. This will put them on a fresh track that has no added 'stuff' (track 5 will get renamed as track 4 when you delete the orig track 4). If the images still don't render it could mean there's something on tracks 1,2 & 3 that are causing the problem.

@DavidFG This image puzzles me, it goes against any 'track issue' I've mentioned. The image is clearly showing, there's nothing in the tracks above preventing it from showing so it should render.

Maybe it is a HEIC problem, maybe NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER doesn't like iPhone High efficiency formats but that's not what Google says .

Google - AI Overview

Yes, the iPhone's High Efficiency formats (HEIF and HEVC) are

compatible with the GTX 1660 Super, which includes dedicated hardware acceleration for both encoding and decoding. This means your graphics card can efficiently process these files for viewing, editing, and streaming on a Windows PC.

... for us to analyze.

@DavidFG

I replaced the HEIC stills in your project with stills from my iPad, unmuted your Track 4 and the render went fine.
