Rendering V23 vs V22 GPU

andyrpsmith wrote on 10/27/2025, 5:32 PM

Now that Happy Otter Scrips has implimented Render+ in V23 I can report the render result of a 5min clip with various Fx including mercalli V6 stabilization, pan/crop horizon level ect. Media is XAVCS 4K 25p (PAL). Codec AV1 (NVENC) at 53 ave/106max, Audio AC3, CPU i9 13900k, ram 96GB, GPU 4080super 16GB vram. Stats from Render+

V23 fps ave 44.08, speed 1.768

V22 fps ave 57.52, speed 2.301

V22 is rendering 30% faster than V23 using identicle settings. There is something in the V23 pipeline slowing things down.

@andyrpsmith I made a post about slow rendering speeds & is this reason I haven't upgraded, I thought it was because I had an AMD CPU that doesn't have IGPU but you have an Intel CPU 🤷‍♂️ (3 or 4 others also mentioned slower speeds)

Yes, I wanted to post this as rendering with FFMPEG in V23 with HOS has only just been fixed and I use this as my final output now. There are a few who seem to find V23 allows faster render than V22 - the lucky one's!

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

I'm getting substantially faster renders from vp23 compared to vp22... but I'm using nothing but Vegas fx, cgp, and native rendering with either a 5080 or 4090 in an aging 11900k machine with the igpu disabled. Shooting mostly 2 to 3-hr 10bit 4k 4:2:0 hevc multicam concerts & musical theater. And rendering 4k nvenc hevc 8bit-full repeatedly for edit previews. And 32bit-full 10bit for final YouTube upload. The 8bit renders are about 1.5x faster while the 32bit ones are more like 4x faster. My only gripe is being stuck with vp22 for audio envelope editing which is an important part of concert and musical theater editing.

I didn't realize HOS could function as an ffmpeg render plugin. Is it like DM Frameserver? I'm going to have to check that out.

Ah, ha.. I see HOS comes with DM Frameserver which just released v7 supporting vp23... got it! And about to test it.

Tested DM Frameserver with vp23 b302 using rgb32. And v210 which came up higher quality. Compared to Magix native MainConcept and Nvenc both somewhat higher in quality. Also tested using the same ffmpeg script with ffmpeg itself which yielded the highest quality. All renders on my laptop with 3060 gpu at 32 mbps cbr. Frameserver and Ffmetrics all using same ffmpeg v7.1.1 from Gyan. I see that I have AviSynth+ v3.7.2.3661 installed which could probably use an update.

In my test, I used no effects or corrections. Just the native footage from my Panasonic G9 camera. VP22 does render it faster than VP23. Adding effects will only show how great the difference is in rendering speeds.
