I installed a Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card into my PC this week. So far everything is stable. No overheating. I am running the latest AMD Adrenalin v23.5.2 driver. If you have any questions, I will try to answer. My PC specs are in my signature.

Home built PC - Corsair case, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Code motherboard, i9 9900k, 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz,  Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB graphics card, Corsair 1000 watt power supply. Windows 11.

Great! Please try the benchmarks in my signature so we can see how it performs in VEGAS.

Ok, done, nothing real impressive, perhaps other settings in the Adrenalin Driver setup would have helped. I wonder if I could use a AMD Software PRO Edition for AMD Radeon™ PRO W7900 driver. Any thoughts on that?

I'm interested to see the results/answers as well. Vegas Movie Studio was rock solid when I had my 5700XT, but once I upgraded to the 3080, I've had a number of issues with VMS and Vegas Pro (crashing, etc. that most everyone complains about). Part of me wonders if because nvidia makes extra effort to optimize their drivers for Premiere or Resolve that some of these optimizations end up breaking something in Vegas, making it unstable. The issues people are having with mobile nvidia cards after XYZ driver lend credibility to it. Just a wild theory, though.

Thanks for doing the benchmark! When doing the render can you watch it with windows task manager/performance monitor? Is the CPU maxed out? Out of curiosity how are the render times with Mainconcept instead of VCE? I'd like to double-check VCE is really working (it should be but times with the roughly equivalent AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU and the RX 6700XT are 1/3 faster than what you are getting which is making me wonder).

Sure you can test the pro driver and see if it does anything different- my guess would be no.

The render with dynamic ram preview off was also a good comparison- that really kills performance.

@NOVAdash If you switched from AMD to NVIDIA decoding it may be the reason for the stability issues. It's not a problem with the driver but with NVDEC in VEGAS with certain media. If you had a CPU with iGPU or Intel ARC card doing decoding you likely wouldn't see any stability issues with the 3080.

Round 2: Main Concept was a little slower and rendering the entire video 4:32 minutes. The GPU and CPU usage was about the same as the AMD VCE.

Magix AMD VCE Rendered in 3:08 minutes. GPU varied between 20 and 51%, CPU varied between 45 to 100%.

@james-ollick I got glitchey monitor performance with the AMD Pro drivers up to 22q4 that I've tried on my boards (6900xt, Radeon, 5700xt) and stopped using them. I see the current 23q PRO drivers are not listed for any of my boards when I search for drivers on the AMD site so I guess they've given up on them except for specific PRO-series boards. I don't see any PRO driver listed for the 7900xtx.

Btw, if you're still up for some more benchmarking, I'm curious how the 7900xtx does on AI FX Torture Test benchmark: here. If you try the newer Hiker version, you might what to compare decoding with AMD vrs Intel. The Original version, also linked, does no decoding.

Thanks, in that case VCE is clearly working as the render time is faster. As new drivers and more VEGAS updates come out you can see if the times change.

I just tried the full render using the second GPU setting, the render time was a bit better at 2:55
