Screen Capture Error in VEGAS PRO 17.0

kb420ps wrote on 12/11/2019, 11:16 PM

I just upgraded to Vegas Pro 17 a few weeks ago, and I did it because I wanted to use the new screen capture feature. Unfortunately, it simply doesn't work. Anytime I try to use it, it seems as if all is ok, but when I try to import the media back in to Vegas, I get an error that says, "Could not parse Vegas Capture file." I have no idea what that means, and I've searched the forums and Google for answers, and I haven't found anything anywhere.

Does not seem to work with Dual Monitors either..   Just get a scrambled mess for both screens...

I guess no one else is having a problem with this? I have Camtasia and OBS, and they work just fine. I hate to think that the money I invested in Vegas was all just a waste.

There is an instructional video on Youtube. Here is the link:

In this video, I believe that there are two different ways to do it, and I tried them both.

I don't know on what hardware Gary, the maker of Vegas and this tutorial made that , but afaik nobody could do the first option , but the second option is most available.
This is to go to C/: users/username and look there for captures.
If there are empty files maybe you have to switch the GPU that is used to execute Vegas Screencapture.

I don't have a problem locating the files, and the files are not "empty". I just get an error that says, "Could not parse Vegas Capture file" when I try to bring them back in to Vegas.

I installed this in July, 2020. Same as everyone else just about - no screen capture, can't parse the file while importing, and only get a little black box in the capture box of the PnP monitor. Apparently no fix, yet.

Just use OBS. Great capture app. Lots of codec options including lossless. It's free. It's captured files import easily into Vegas for editing.

If you do that, please use these default settings:

I want my software to work, not use a 3rd party. If it won't work then no reason to upgrade to the latest version

I also got that same error when trying to import into Vegas. However, you can just drag the files you located directly to the timeline. Now syncing is a different issue if you've recorded multiple sources at the same time... I use VEGAS Stream for my capturing of both the screen and any cameras and audio. I then use the included script which allows me to import everything directly to the timeline and everything will be in sync. You do not have to stream in order to do the capture. VEGAS Stream is included with some VEGAS 365 versions.
