Script Menu folder & VegasPro 13 (453)

BobMoyer wrote on 4/25/2018, 5:49 PM

After reading a comment by Nick regarding an 'older' script dealing with selecting X frames for an image sequence render, I started up VP 9,10, and 13 (ALL of them the last/current updates). As it turns out I did not have that script installed.  In fact, 13 wouldn't list any scripts at all other than the option to 'rescan script folder'.  Upon selecting that option, NOTHING happens. I rebooted the computer and there were still no scripts listed nor would it rescan the folder. Sony's 9 and 10 all listed the scripts.  Magix's VP15 also listed the scripts.  I navigated into the folders and there is in fact a 'script menu' folder with all of the scripts listed in the proper location.  Are there any suggestions as to how to remedy this.  I thought I could just reinstall 13 over top of itself, but I get a msg. that I must uninstall version 13 before I try to install it.  It is currently my favorite and most stable version and I use it daily, not to mention it is heavily customized.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

Did you find the script menu here?

C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\Script Menu

Sorry for acting like Captain Obvious.

BobMoyer wrote on 4/25/2018, 9:09 PM

Yes, that was the location. As I mentioned the other versions had their respective 'Script Menu' in their corresponding file locations (similar path) and they were working correctly. I mention also that I had VP 13 customized....by that I mean I also have Vegasaur, UltimateS, SEMW extensions, Excalibur and others.

WAG

Do you have something in this Internal setting.

Yes, John, my settings match your screen grab.  BTW, thanks for trying to help, this is all beyond my capabilities.

John, I looked at all of the versions I currently have on my computer.  The item "Script Menu Path" is filled in VegasPro 9, and 10 (and these work).  It is blank in VegasPro 13 (does not work).  And surprisingly, it is also blank in Magix's VegasPro15 (and this works!).

I attempted to enter the correct path since it is blank in VP13 but it will not allow me to make any changes.  The 'apply' button is greyed out.

It's probably better not to change it.

This comment from amendegw in this old thread may help...

"So, I created a "My Documents\Vegas Script Menu" folder and did nothing else but Rescan the Script Menu Folder and scripts from both folders show up.

Definitely, the preferred method.

...Jerry"

BobMoyer wrote on 4/26/2018, 11:25 AM

I will give that a try.  Yes, I can 'Run Script' and navigate to the folder but I am both lazy and spoiled and used to the fact that they had been listed. Can't imagine what happened. Win7 did some sort of 'roll up' update just prior to me realizing the list of scripts was missing. That may have been it. Thanks again for your help.

OK, in an attempt to fix this issue, I created a Vegas Script Menu folder in 'my documents' and rebooted computer. Then selected 'rescan script menu folder' and nothing happened.  I then uninstalled the latest update for Win7 and rebooted computer, selected 'rescan' and again nothing happened.  It is almost as if that 'rescan' option button is not connected to anything.  Anyway I tried and just wanted to let you know.

It's beginning to look like Vegas 13 is corrupted. I would save a system image of the current system and try to reinstall Vegas Pro 13-453 even though you might have to uninstall it first.

With a guarantee like that I can't lose!

Maybe worth resetting Vegas to default settings to see if that helps before reinstalling it.

If you reinstall, I suggest a clean uninstall.

Before your post, Nick, I tried a system restore to a date that I am sure everything was working. I did restore but didn't correct my problem with Vegas. I will try your suggestion....I am not looking forward to reinstalling all of my extensions....have to search for my passwords....I have them, I just have to locate them!

So, if it's not too late, try reset -> regular reinstall -> clean reinstall.

~ 1) ~

"C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\Script Menu"
or
"C:\Program Files\VEGAS\Vegas Pro 13.0\Script Menu"

Or

if exist "C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Local Settings\Sony\Vegas Pro\13.0\" (
del /f /s /q "C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Local Settings\Sony\Vegas Pro\13.0\" )

depending on the situation.

Rename the "Script Menu" folder to something else. Like "Script Menu Compromised".
Create new empty folder "Script Menu".
Start copying your scripts to this new folder (begin with well-known and "native Vegas'es" ones) until you encounter the "corrupted" script which "breaks the Script Portal".
Damn it's creators and delete it.
...If this is the case...

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and suggestions. Above are all the various things I tried, stopping yesterday with the system restore that was successful but did NOT repair my VP13.  A few minutes ago I booted up and launched Vegas with the intention of trying first Jam_One's suggestions and then if that failed I would reset or reinstall following Nick's advice.  However, my Script Menu has magically reappeared and I am once again a happy camper. Boy, computers sure make life a lot easier!

Last post on this issue!  I found the cause of the script menu problem.  If I remove Vegasaur from my computer, everything works fine ALL the time.  Vegasaur 2.7 or 2.71 (the latest versions for Sony's Vegas Pro 13) will cause my problems on 'my' Win7 installation.  Evidently it must not be a problem for anyone else. I have Vegasaur 3.35 installed for Magix's VegasPro 15 and it works fine.  The reason the menu showed up properly, hit and miss, was due to the fact that Vegasaur doesn't always load the first time I boot Vegas 13 up but will load on every subsequent start of Vegas. At least there is nothing major wrong.

Vegas has a limit on the number of displayed scripts in the menu. Older versions have a smaller limit.

Vegasaur alone has more than 100 commands, so it can easily overfill this limit if you have many other scripts and extensions.

+ Older Vegas versions have a bug with extensions submenus - often they are not visible. That's why I recommend to add Vegasaur icon to the toolbar.

This bug was fixed in VEGAS 15 as far as I know

BobMoyer wrote on 4/29/2018, 1:41 PM

'altarvic',

Just to explain and not to appear to be complaining, I am OK with this limitation.  I had read this 'disclaimer' before but since my VP13 'Script Menu' folder only contains the original 16 scripts, I didn't think that Vegasaur was the reason for my slight problem.  Honestly, I just kind of panicked thinking my workhorse (Sony VegasPro 13) had somehow gotten corrupted. Frequently after booting up the computer (Win7 - all updates) and launching 13, Vegasaur's Icon doesn't always show up on the menu bar and looking at the extensions, I see an entry like Vegasaur should go here.  If I don't need it during this edit then I have the listing in my script menu of all 16 scripts. If I reboot Vegas then Vegasaur always shows up and is fully functional, but my script menu is blank.  As I said above I am OK with this now that I know what is happening.

Thanks for your comment--great program by the way!!
