Which version and system build of the OS is it?

William-Waight wrote on 4/14/2021, 2:49 PM

I use Microsoft Windows 10 Home, and the version is:10.0.19042 Build 19042

Marco. wrote on 4/14/2021, 2:56 PM

If it is 19042.906 or 19042.928 then it could be a known issue introduced by that last Windows update. We wait for a fix.

walter-i. wrote on 4/14/2021, 3:43 PM

It has worked for me so far - today the automatic update was carried out and now it has also hit me.
Windows version 20H2, system build 19042.928

William-Waight wrote on 4/14/2021, 5:11 PM

Ah that's a shame, so I could try rolling back to an earlier windows state maybe? Thanks for the information. Also my Windows is 19024.928.

Gentlemen, you do not need to update Windows every single time Microsoft chooses to push them out!

Stick to what works for you until there is a specific need for an improved update or upgrade!

Mine continues to work as before for Sony XAVC files and projects, it crashes immediately with .MTS since the update to 19024.928

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

Hopefully Magix can address this soon- it being replicable probably makes that more likely!

I don't really see how you can do more than put off Windows Updates- after a while it says support is coming to and end and schedules it for installation. I don't volunteer for any early updates, though.

john_dennis wrote on 4/15/2021, 3:03 PM

I don't shoot video with an .MTS extension, but I have a hard drive full of it from my son's old camera. This morning, I allowed Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.925 to install along with Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5001330). I immediately got the Vegas 18.482 crash when attempting to open an .MTS file.

I was unable to remove Servicing Stack 10.0.19041.925 so I removed Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5001330) thinking it might be blocking the removal. On reboot after the removal of Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5001330), I was able to open .MTS files as before.

I'm not particularly bothered by this as I have an image backup from 2021-03-26. Hope this data point helps someone.

Scared! - that one KB5000842 was not installed but vanished.

I noticed the same security update (KB5001330), and was able to uninstall it but it didn't resolve my issue, which is that I can't open a .Veg file if it contains an MP4 file, and I use MP4 files. Does anyone have an idea of how long it typically takes Magix to address problems like this? I'm trying to work out if it's worth reinstalling windows from scratch which I don't want to do.

Can you provide us with the exaxt MediaInfo of that mp4, follwing this tutorial?

I think that would be the attached screenshot right? It appears to effect all my mp4 files so I've just picked one of them that I've know causes an issue even if it's the only thing in the project. Thanks for helping with this!

j-v wrote on 4/16/2021, 6:41 AM

Seems nothing wrong with that file and for sure not if you can open it alone in an empty. new project.

Do we think my issue is likely the same one mentioned in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/mit-vegas-pro-18-kein-ton-mehr-bei-einer-mts-datei-ac-3--128318/?page=2

My error message is a little different but also synchs up to the timing of the windows update being installed.

Unlikely- your MediaInfo says the audio is AAC.

EricLNZ wrote on 4/17/2021, 2:59 AM

And the audio is only 2 channel. @William-Waight Try what @j-v suggested and try adding it to a new empty project.

William-Waight wrote on 4/17/2021, 9:39 AM

So, I have tried what @j-v suggested. I can add the mp4 file (or any mp4) to an empty project, but if I save that project and then try to reopen it, it fails. I've also tried opening a project that just contains an mp3 file and it opens fine, so it seems that only some file types cause the error. Unfortunately all of my projects I've been working on contain mp4 files :(

Resetting Vegas Pro as per the instructions doesn't solve the issue. All it does is let me open empty projects (previously it would always try to load a cached project and crash), but as soon as I try to open a saved project the program still crashes even after resetting it. I've also separately re-installed it again no dice.

William-Waight, Which software, Codec or driver have you recently installed?

Firstly, thank you for all the help people have offered so far. I appreciate it.

I went through windows updates and saw "2021-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 10H2 for x64 based Systems (KB5001330)" installed on the 14th. I'd previously used Vegas 18 without any apparent issues on the 13th of April, although I can't remember exactly what I did. I'm fairly confident I did open .veg files without the program crashing, though.

I've uninstalled all updates from the past month that Windows 10 lets me uninstall. I'm unable to uninstall an "Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player" and "Servicing Stack 10.01.19041.925" which went through on the 14th and 13th of April according to my update screen. There's a slight discrepancy between what Windows 10 shows me on the "View Update History Page" and "Installed Update Page", in that the Update History page shows nothing installed on the 13th but the Installed Update Page shows the Servicing Stack Upgrade on the 13th.

I'm unaware of any Codec/Drivers that might have been installed recently. Or when I last updated Vegas 18 itself. Is there a way to check this out? Vegas does quite often get me to update it, and I've definitely had an update to Vegas 18 in the past few weeks.

Vegas failing to open some projects

We have multiple computers running Vegas Pro 17. Two of them had the Windows 20H2 installed. Now they crash on certain projects. I know Vegas will not accept MTS anymore on those ones. I'm not sure about MP4 files yet. We will need solutions, either from Magix or Microsoft.
