(V13 Platinum) Partial audio track dropout (peaks as well)

Hello all,

Trying to troubleshoot an issue I'm having with a project in MS Plat 13. Please take a look at the linked image. Note what's happening with the peaks in Track 4 (audio track). At some point in the editing, the track went silent, and on zooming out, I see what you see in the image here.

At the point where you see the peaks disappear, the audio also disappears, even though the raw media track is perfectly fine (verified this with a separate audio program). I tried rebuilding/refreshing the peaks, but the results are the same.

I've seen this issue once before recently, and the only way I could get past it was to delete the original audio media from the project, and add back in the same file in another format (WAV instead of MP3, for example). But I lose my edits that way, of course.

Has anybody seen this before, and are there any remedies that let me preserve my edit work so far? Why doesn't rebuilding the peaks fix this, if I know the raw media is good? Is there a way to replace that entire file in the project with another of the same length and keep the edits?

Thanks very much!

Just to confirm, is the problem file in mp3 format?

Is there a way to replace that entire file in the project with another of the same length and keep the edits?

Project Media window > right click on the file > Replace. You can choose a different format and it should keep the edits.

Yes, in fact, it IS an MP3. The previous occurrence of this issue involved an MP3 also. I’ve only recently worked with a few MP3 files, as my digital recorder won’t record a WAV file long enough for a couple of my recent projects.

Is this issue being triggered by something about the MP3 files? If so, I’ll absolutely plan to export all MP3s to WAV before pulling them into a project in the future.

Thanks very much for the “replace” tip. I think I actually have used that before, but the memory left me in the stress of the moment! :-) I’ll report back with an all-clear if everything works. Thanks Nick!

MP3 should work. There was an issue with MP3 in VP14 discussed here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-14-mp3-audio-issues--103789/

Which recorder are you using to record the files?

MediaInfo and VEGAS Pro File Properties reports would be useful.

If this is repeatable with certain files then maybe you could share a sample file on a cloud service for others to test.
