Vegas 17 18 wont import 4k mov files

After a lot of time spent trying to import zcam 4k mov. I've come to the conclusion neither vegas 17 or 18 can do this I have tried import mov files in preferences reinstalling etc and it either crashes on trying to import or it will import 1 or 2 files out of 12 the rest won't play and some don't make it at all My computer is 4k is MSI GE Force GTX 1070 SLI

What exactly is the file type? Paste media info for it. Just mov doesn't say anything. Another user couldn't import a strange ZCAM mov with HEVC proxy embedded in it.

Yes, more detail would be better. I looked up the Zcam and it seems to save a range of ProRes and ProRes raw files. If you could link to a download of a few seconds-long clip, we could also test it on different systems.

This is also a ProRes with a HEVC proxy embedded into it. Can you try other file types the camera supports in hopes one works with Vegas?

Here's a similar situation- it may load if "Enable legacy HEVC decoding" is enabled on the File I/O tab.

Seem to have found a way to make it work by weirdly turning of the import quicktime files in deprecated features and turning on legacy HEVC decoding.

Playing with these options changes the decoder used for the file. You can right click on the media in Vegas and look at properties to see what is being used to decode it. For common file types Vegas figures this out well enough, but clearly not in the case of this camera.

I'm confused- this is a different file- you transcoded to Magix Intermediate?

The relevant part here is "Plug-In Name: mxhevcplug.dll". You can see it change for the ZCam file when you enable legacy decoding, etc.

Yes its another file from the same shoot Its not transcoded its magix interpretation of this mov file I believe Now all 11 files straight from the camera load perfectly.

Well, I'm glad you found a workaround. The legacy codecs don't support hardware decoding I believe, so hopefully playback performance is tolerable (or you'll have to create proxy files) until the newer decoders are improved to support it.

Thanks Roger, I won't be creating mov files It's just an intermediate to edit from the camera It will become H264 The files playback fine on the timeline. Thanks everyone for your help. Just hope it stays fixed lol.
