Vegas 22 bugs? Single green frames and video stands still

Parser wrote on 8/10/2024, 1:19 PM

I'm using Vegas Pro 22 Build 93 (Win 10) and I'm constantly running into the same two issues:

1) In many clips, there's suddenly a single dark green frame (not visible if I watch this clip outside Vegas). It's usually somewhere when two fade into each other.

2) Many clips with motion simply stand still on the first frame as I play them back. I checked the playback rate, it's what it's supposed to be, plus these clips play back fine outside Vegas.

Before upgrading to Vegas 22, I used Vegas 19 and never had these issues. I tried to worked around it, but this is really trying my patience now.

Can you share MediaInfo and upload a sample video that exhibits these issues? (Dropbox, Google Drive)

22 has a new media decoder and revised video engine that's still a work in progress and there are problems.

I'm getting same issue with green frame between two clips cross faded or joined. It's ok on playback but when I render it and upload to YouTube it's there. Any update on this?

EricLNZ wrote on 10/7/2024, 4:21 AM

@robdidonato Please post MediaInfo or share a problem file as per RogerS's post above yours.

RogerS wrote on 10/7/2024, 5:57 AM

@robdidonato Depending on the media type you can try checking "enable legacy AVC decoding" (or experimental HEVC decoding) in options/preferences/video. I still see some issues with 22.122 myself.

If you can share MediaInfo and what GPU you are using that would be helpful.

Same here, had same problem with Vegas 21 308 build, using Vegas 22 build 122, GoPro videos. Only does it at the cross fade transitions. i've enabled both Legacy AVC and Experimental HEVC, and it didn't fix it. Nvidia RTX2060 10-01-2024 latest driver.

If I disable GTX2060 Acceleration the glitches go away but the rendering time goes stupidly long. Like an hour to render a 10 minute video versus about 15 min to render a 10 minute video.

I’ve rendered every which way. And one thing that happens is the green cross fade frames always show up at the last 5 or 6 clips. Also I’m getting a clear glitch on some legacy text layers. Especially when using transitions like Wipe or 3d transitions. I use legacy because the new text glitches too.

Took out all the crossfades and no glitches. Used the non-legacy text with wipes. Most of the clips are 4k 120fps and many are stretched to slow motion. My laptop is a 10th gen intel quad core i7 10750H windows 11 pro, HP 17” Omen 32gb ram 1tb SSD C drive (temp files) with 445gb space another 1tb SSD and a 2tb SSD. Nvidia Gtx2060 GPU. All up to date. Vegas 22 build 122. During render never saw ram usage above 40%. Usually running 4-10%. Stretched clips seemed to draw more ram usage. 12:30 min video took 1hr 18 min to render Magix AVC/AAC MP4 Internet HD 1080p 25fps.

I'm seeing the same green glitches before or during crossfades with my 3 NVIDIA GPU systems and VP 21.300 through 22.122 (10xx, 20xx and 40xx all with the current studio driver). It's easiest for me to replicate the issue on mobile systems.

Would you mind sharing one source file? I'd like to see if I can replicate the issue here.

Found a workaround on my laptop with 3060+IrisXe... I tried is using GL Transitions on the fades. Most of them also show green but I found one that does not: Grid Flip. And a couple custom ones I installed: Exponential Swish and Page Curl.

A partial workaround when those transitions are unsuitable, is to set my igpu in i/o screen to IrisXe or OFF while leaving video-pref gpu set to 3060. That's sub-optimal for vp22 but better performing than setting gpu off in video-prefs. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.

@Jeffrey-Stachowiak you will have to upload a short clip to the cloud to be downloaded. If you have a Gmail account, you can use Google Drive or another cloud storage.

I re-rendered some small loop sections where the cross fade had the green frame glitch and they turned out OK. So I can't replicate it. It's 4K 30fps DJI Action 3 and 22 minutes long.. It only starts to happen near the end as the first half of the video's cross fades are fine, and all my other videos are OK. I have a million dollar computer and graphics card so its not like it's struggling. Something in the latest update? - Anyway. I am going to do another long video and will let you know if it happens again near the end of the render

That green glitch was in the clip, no fade used. Weird. I'm not getting that. Only when using Vegas crossfades. And usually at the end of the video or near the end like yours. It's like the processor CPU or GPU is running out of power or overheating maybe?

OK, Rendered the same video every which way. With GTX2060 acceleration on, GPU heated up to 187 degrees F running 100%, 2 hour render time at 4k 25fps no glitches this time. Turned off acceleration and same video same settings 1 hour 8 min render time. No glitches. After numerous attempts I now believe that the Nvidia GPU is overheating and causing the glitches, especially since I'm seeing the green glitches near the end of the videos.

Interesting. Over the years I've seen posts on several forums where laptops getting too warm have caused problems.

@Jeffrey-Stachowiak Can you cool your laptop someway? Reduce room temperature, raise it and blow air underneath ?

RogerS wrote on 10/18/2024, 10:04 PM

Interesting if you continue to find this pattern (esp. if it disappears in winter months?

However I it may not be that it is overheating, it's just that it doesn't always glitch. My mobile GPU here is only at 60C or so and even my extremely well cooled desktop RTX 2080 has similar issues with green on overlapped clips (though not every time).

robdidonato wrote on 10/19/2024, 3:08 AM

my example was a crossfade a small one of about 1-3 seconds. I think it might be just a glitch. seems to only happen near the end of a long render, so yeah it could just be graphics card heating up. My last render of 20 minutes was all good. Didn't happen again. I'm now checking closely and if so, re-rendering. Knock on wood but if it happens again, maybe render in 10 minute blocks and then stich together at end?... not ideal. Unless the guys at Magix might be able to replicate it and find root cause.

I have my laptop setting on two fans and everything is clean. I use Omen app to monitor stats. Forgot to mention GPU runs at 100% the entire render.

Anyone know why a clip on the timeline would be lagging when dragging? I went back to the launch version of 22, but it's still happening. I went back to Vegas 19 where I didn't have the issue, copied the same settings and it still persist in 22. It's just an annoyance.
