I don't follow. Sony doesn't pick n' choose those situations, the buyer for the website does. I'd be blaming the academic distributor before I'd blame Sony.
Our educational distributor limits where certain products can be sold, I'm sure Sony has the same issues. (we're also distributed by the same company distributing Sony)
Think about it for a second....how is it possibly in Sony's best interest to restrict what you can buy from an authorized Sony Software dealer?

Spot, thanks for response. I spoke to smartsoft executive and he told me to ask sony about it. I don't know why he would say that. Do you know where I can get student discount for that software. I have vegas 4 and I can't afford to buy from sony it's too expensive. For that price I would by AVID for two hundred dollars more. Thanks again for response.

At the top of this page you'll see RESELLERS. The drop down appears showing ACADEMIC.
Lots and lots of options for you.

Thank you guys, I tried those websites and they are all discontinued they only sell the vegas 5 no DVDA. I went to the sony site and they sell it. That's the upgrade version no magicbullet or boris. just upgrade. Thank you for your responses.

But why is sony not letting the other companies sell them together anymore? That is educational companies....

Didn't you read what Spot said? "Sony doesn't pick n' choose those situations, the buyer for the website does. I'd be blaming the academic distributor before I'd blame Sony." (emphasis added)

That is kind of strange. I went to the site my daughter got her copy from and they were only selling Vegas no DVD.

Of course the sign in screen was half a page for the Adobe Collection. Perhaps a coincidence or the various dealers stopped carrying the DVDA to steer business toward a competing product with perhaps a higher margin?
craftech wrote on 12/2/2004, 5:34 PM
I searched and found the same thing even at the Academic Superstore. Vegas 5 only.
Another vendor had it , but with a 10 site license only.

I did find it still available at Edu-software.net for $284.95 and at Campus Tech for $269

I was patiently waiting to purchase the Vegas 5+DVD software after the holiday and I was informed by another board about this problem.

Since most educational resellers removed the +DVD software from their catalog, is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Kwak wrote on 12/5/2004, 3:11 PM
The Campus Tech website is selling the Vegas 4 +DVD for your information.
cervama wrote on 12/6/2004, 8:58 AM
This is strange. Vegas 5 and no DVDA2. Go figure.

>>...Vegas 5 and no DVDA2...

Maybe they're going to finally un-bundle DVDA2 like some folks wanted.

This may ruffle some feathers, but it needs to be said.

I have NO USE for so-called "student' discounts. The problem is as reported here over and over, many that aren't students or pretend to be thirty or even forty or fifty something "students' take advantage of loopholes or simply outright LIE, to get a cheaper price. Ditto for so called teachers doing the same thing.

There is no reason, and I mean NO DAMN REASON why some should benefit getting software at a deep discount while others pay full price. If you can't afford it, then save your pennies and cut back on your boozing or whatever else you're blowing your money on foolishly. I'm sick of the whining often heard in this forum and elsewhere you can't afford to buy the software. That's such a lame excuse, its laughable.

Life involves CHOICES. You CHOOSE what to buy and what to do without out. That's how it should be. Software isn't and never will be a necessity. I'll also wager those that bitch software is too expensive have bought dozens of game software.

That said, ALL software is too damn expensive. Still some shouldn't get a huge discount while others end up in effect paying more to offset those getting a discount. Its a stupid practice and should have never been started. Period. The only time anyone should get a discount is when you buy in volume. Not the half-ass I'm a student excuse.

To a point, I agree w/you, Billyboy.
Students, REAL students, should have access to lower cost software, for any number of marketing reasons for current and future use, not to mention seeding the marketplace with users of a specific software, thus enhancing it's longevity.
But...
Student discounts are so frickin' abused that I suspect there are more abusers than students. Whe you go to Ebay, you'll find Microsoft, Sony, and other major software companies represented there by "academic resellers" selling this stuff online to anyone. That's not fair to us, it's not fair to the software company, and it's not fair to students.
cervama wrote on 12/6/2004, 11:12 AM
I started this tread and I agree with you billyboy and spot. I understand both of your points that people find loopholes to cheat prices. I'm not disagreeing with you both. Not everyone cheat, and billyboy not everyone is spending their money on boozing, smoking, computer games or whatever else you spend your money.

Loopholes are in every aspect of life, some make sense and others don't.

Spot and Billyboy I respect your opinions and great knowledge but please don't tell me you never used loopholes in your business and take the halos off your heads. There is only one righteous and that's God. Yes I am a student of VEGAS and student at ULV. Thanks again for your awesome feedback.

P.S. I'm sure you folks write it off on your taxes, so it's actually free.

Cervama, I know you're a student, so likely a legit need for student prices. That's my point though, is that there are guys like you that need it. There are folks in here that post how they bought at a great academic deal and that's wrong if they're not students.
I know one teacher who bought Vegas as an academic use-only for school, and bought a full-price version for his home use. That's what this is really all intended for, isn't it?

I hope you can find the academic package you're looking for!
BillyBoy wrote on 12/6/2004, 11:38 AM
Sure... I'm not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, just that its common knowledge that there are people that abuse the concept of so-called "student" discounts.

As an example, my own cousin. I love her of course, but she's a near 60 something "student", she has a PhD, is well off, owns more then one business, blah, blah, yet she is "entitled" to get a discount on most software she wants, will a six figure income. Go figure.

Its just seems so utterly stupid.

PS While you can write-off software used in business, some labor under the false impression its a dollar for dollar wash, meaning the software costs you nothing. Nope, it only reduces taxable income by X dollars, depending your income.

Don't get me started on the IRS. <wink>

Most Educational sellers require s student ID copy or letter from the school as proof, I know that Studica dot com does.
