Vegas 5 : Tell us what you need

When you mouse-over the transport buttons they change color. It would be nice if, when a button is pressed, it holds that color and looks pressed so you can confirm that Vegas is doing the right thing.
CDM wrote on 11/4/2003, 10:23 AM
I agree with this! Seeing a button depressed would be nice.

Just 2 more suggestions:

1. wmf support;
2. VCD tracks, like Audio CD tracks.

OMF import and Export!
DaSoundGuy wrote on 11/6/2003, 1:47 PM

After seeing Vegas Video's Vectorscope/Waveform/Histogram displays, which represents a landmark in hardware emulation, it's kind of odd that Vegas doesn't have equivalent audio tools:

1. A proper Real-time Spectral Analyzer, applicable to individual tracks as well as busses and outputs.
2. A Vector Audio Scope
3. An Input Polarity Meter
4 A Noise generator

DSG: Sounds like you need to buy Sound Forge.
Arnar wrote on 11/7/2003, 4:12 AM
yep....just gor a project from Nuendo that had to be rendered track by track from start point as we have no OMF import.

Made me look bad for using Vegas......again!

"DSG: Sounds like you need to buy Sound Forge. "

bgc, I've been using Forge forever. Think carefully about why there's no "Video Forge".

Uh... what? Please explain "why there's no Video Forge".

A list of the most recomemnded interfaces for use with Sonic Foundry Vegas.
The list should reflect a broad spectrum as far as price points. Low end / Medium / High End.
A list of components to avoid for the Vegas Software: Chip Sets / Mother Boards / Non compatible combinations / etc.
A News letter [email] with news and featured users both Professional and Hobbiest with their respective success stories and or projects using Vegas.

Thank You Very Much,

General MIDI in
General MIDI edit
General MIDI out
This will let us work directly with our musicians' equipment, just like the big studios do.
"Hey, David, here's a General MIDI floppy of the score you wanted."
"OK, and here's a GM floppy of the changes I've made to make it fit the flow of action. Play it on your MIDI keyboard and let me know..."
MacMoney wrote on 11/12/2003, 7:23 AM
1. Open Acid sessions, OMF and AAF Import/Export.
2. Midi/Ethernet Controller Surface.
3. DX, VST, RTAS and Sony Oxford EQ, Dynamics and Inflator as default Trk FX .
4. DXi, VSTi and RTAS soft synths support.
5. Midi Sequencer, Mix window, Edit Window ala Sound Forge 7.

More than 999 clips/project. Please.
bgc wrote on 11/12/2003, 1:10 PM
George brings up a point I hadn't thought of before.

Would it be possible to give Vegas RTAS pro-tools plug-in support? That would be really awesome as there are some cool plugins out there that only support that format.

Is it too much apples and oranges to work Peter?

Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but I would like to see in the "open" & "save" dialog windows a "recent" area like in Sound Forge to make moving between folders easier.

Regards!

You need to clear the audio buffer when pressing stop or pause.

This is an issue with audio utilitiy programs that monitor output (like RME Audio's Digicheck program.) If you don't clear the audio buffer then such programs keep seeing (hearing) the audio left in the buffer, even after playback has stopped.

When stopping or pausing Vegas, the audio buffer should be filled with silence. Most, if not all other DAW software does this.

Upon STOP or PAUSE, send last buffer as empty to prevent final buffer to be played through third party hardware/apps.

thought I'd add more to my pervious suggestions earlier, and list the bugs that need sorting :o)

23. select group of events -> convert to one media event. (a glue tool)

24. option of short fade on master buss every time play is pressed. (straight to loud makes people jump)

25. Ensure computer is ready before it starts playing so no stutters on starting playback, regardless of buffer size.

26. Overload protection - if CPU is going to go over 100% disable plugins and announce it.

27. option of extra head and tail on 'open copy in audio editor'.

28. while recording if no FX on track, opening the FX panel and pressing cancel stops the recording, it shouldn't.

29. Ability to tag text to takes or sections of audio - on individual events. A little (notes) button on the event would be cool.

30. finer gridspacing - 64ths, 64th note triplets 128th note, 128th note triplet. This is required for linkin park style cutting and editing.

31. edit silence from events. right click -> trim silence. You should be able to select a threshold, and a fade in / out length. This would trim out the silence in an event and turn it into multiple events.

32. add the ability to add non-destructive event FX and then freeze them, all while listening in context to the rest of the track. I.E. be able to autotune a vocal, using the manual graph but at the same time listening with the rest of the track.

33. the ability to adjust the metronone volume independant of the main outputs.
(giving the metronome it's own buss or fader would be sufficient.)

34. Ability to add, remove adjust and add plugins seamlesslessy while playing back or recording, without droputs or glitches.

35. Ability to add triplet beats, sub beats to the metronome, and be able to adjust the volume of each. Buy a DR. Beat Boss drum machine for example. Some drummers need this.

Bugs:

1. crashes when input monitor armed and open in sound forge.

2. crashes when adding plugins to a buss while track is record armed and routed to buss. Intermittant.

3. crackles when recording over 12 tracks - recording through input 1 of Delta 1010, single track overdubs.
No matter what buffer setting or delta 1010 driver. Could be related to UAD drivers.

4. crash after recording short loop section, and pressing play immediately.

5. crash when muting / unmuting a buss while track record armed, with no input monitor. Intermittant.

6. crash when adding plugins to a buss while record-armed.

7. sometimes when recording for a while overdubbing, the whole system gets 'sticky' and judders over a section of audio.
Sometimes using the mouse during recording can prevent this; it seems to happen when the system is left to record unattended

power user wishes

multiple CPU support with load balancing..
Athlon 64 bit native support..
Integrated Sound Forge or editing that provides mastering tools for 7.1 including pro-logic encoding..
Buildable network render cpu's ala 3d software, let other comp's hooked to the network perform effects like waves bundles over 10/100/1000..
Larger buffers for those of us actually recording 48 tracks at a time..
Cooperative driver exchange with major companies (if they can't make a better driver for a 24 i/o or delta 1010 you guys help them do it)..
Code porting for memory access, if I have 2 gig in my machine let me designate x amount directly for buffer use or any other within Vegas..
sharonjax wrote on 11/16/2003, 10:55 PM
1. interface re-design!
2. tab buttons to avoid screen clutter
3. more colors for wave forms and automation curves (or better yet...ability to personalise everything)
MRe wrote on 11/17/2003, 6:26 AM
Probably already listed, but here's my 0.02 EUR:

- background rendering
- better media pool & media management
- possibility to "lock" audio pitch with video velocity (i.e. when you e.g. drop video to 50% sound would follow). This would require association of video and sound, otherwise Vegas would'nt know which audio to change.
- free upgrade to 5.0 ;-)

Some way to tell WHERE plug-ins are being used.

For instance Ozone is a great plug-in but a CPU pig. I had to click every effects button to find out where I was using Ozone to optimize things a bit.

Nothing fancy, a simple tabular display would be fine.

Thanks

Larry

Yep , i second that . I would like to be able to see where the plugins are in use

I want compatibility with the "Mackie Control Universal " control surface, with lots of expanders (for a large number of moving faders)!

I want to be able to use somebody's multichannel audio interfaces with lots of simultaneous digital and/or analog I/O!

And I want this all to work alongside other apps without crashing!

If you'll add these features, I'll switch entirely over to Vegas+DVD from my other systems!
