Vegas Colorization plug-in not working (Vegas Pro 18)

When I had the trial of Vegas Pro 18 installed, if I wanted to use the AI effects (Colorization, Style Transfer), I would need to delete the files in C:\Users\MySpace\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\18.0 every time before running Vegas Pro 18. You may not need to delete all files. Try deleting just svfx_plugin_cache.bin

This workaround did not work for me! When deleting the svfx_plugin_cache.bin file in that directory and restarting Vegas Pro 18, I can see the presets of AI effects (Colorization, Style Transfer) however, I still can not use them! Here is a screenshot:

By the way, the AI bundle is already installed, and reinstalling it did not help!

How to find out what generation is my CPU?

My CPU is: CPU: Xeon E3-1270 v5  quad-core @ 3.60GHz, 8MB cache, up to 4GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology

@aboammar, I'm guessing "v5" means 5th generation? Colorization (and Style Transfer) works with my 4th gen i7.

Vegas Pro 18.0 (Build 284)
OS: Windows 10 Pro 2004
CPU: Intel Core (4th gen) i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz (HD Graphics 4600 - driver 15.40.46.5144)
Memory: 32GB DDR3
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1660 SUPER - driver 452.06

You may have some success with some older processors, however, you may experience many more problems.

@VEGASDerek
I'm using an Intel i9-9900KS 4GHz and Vegas Pro 18 immediately crashes when I click "Style Transfer".
Colorization works, however.
Ideas?

Wow this worked for me, both the colorization and style transfer things now work - how does this fix it?

Additional note, yes you need to delete the cash bin file before Vegas starts and creates a new one.

So it is not related to the 3rd gen i5 but something else?

I've tried this, and the next time I ran the program the Style Transfer wasn't there but the Colorization was there (but with no presets just like before). Hmm.

So I decided to put the file back before any more weird changes were made to the program. 😶

Did you just delete the svfx_pulgin_cashe.bin file

I have. :)

Yes I'm interested too, as I only recently upgraded my set-up (before the 3900x I had the Ryzen 7 1700 chip)

Has the change from 1700 to 3900 improved the performance of the software?

bryan-quarrie wrote on 8/12/2020, 7:10 AM

Totally! @Lukasz

About three weeks ago I was given the task of creating one of those "virtual music performance" videos that featured a choir of 50 singers. Normally after all of the editing, audio syncing etc I would render it out as a XAVCS 3840 x 2160 video @29.97 fps. This took about 4.5hrs to render 😂😂. Around that time I installed the new chip.

I took the same project into VP18, used the same render settings and this time it took 1hr 10 mins 😄😄.

The GPU performance in editing seemed to be a bit smoother as well - I normally use NewBlue plugins like Film Colour 2 etc.

(Now the thing to bear in mind is that the chip was the only part of the computer I updated. I still have the 32GB RAM and the same motherboard that the Ryzen 7 was installed on (ASUS Prime B350 plus)).

One other thing is that aside from the CPU, I am certain that Magix must've improved the GPU side of things because 17 didn't feel as smooth as 18 when editing/rendering, even with the 3900x installed. (Ryzen 7 1700 has 8 cores / 16 threads, the new one has 12 cores / 24 threads).

I'm just curious about the AI stuff now...

This will serve me well for another 4 years lol!!! 😉

Please keep in mind the VEGAS Pro 18 system requirements for the CPU. We are currently requiring a 6th Generator Intel Core or Xeon processor (or AMD equivilant). These processors contain specific features which are required for the AI/Deep learning features to work properly. You may have some success with some older processors, however, you may experience many more problems.

Hi VegasDerek, could I ask why if the svfx_plugin_cache.bin is deleted prior to loading V18 the AI colorization & Style transfer plugins are there and are working correctly. Close Vegas down and reload the plugins are missing?

Many thanks Andy

I hope you don't mind me raising this again, but I really would like to know why AI works if svfx_plugin_cache.bin is deleted prior to V18 loads and then does not the next time it runs. Is this a bug? (I know my i5 does not meet the spec but it does work with the two plugins if they appear in the plugin list when clicked on). Many thanks Andy

I'm still intrigued by this whole thing. Are the AI plug-ins Intel-centric? 🤔

I don't think so. Both my desktop and laptop are i-7. AI works in the laptop but not on the desktop.

At least the svfx_plugin_cache.bin issue gives the Vegas devs something to go on. Hopefully, it will be resolved in the first update.

On your laptop do the plugins appear (appear with options in the window) each time you load Vegas?

Yes this is a bug with a high priority in our list. At the moment we see the same bug with some randomness for the running machines. Thanks community for finding a workaround and we try to fix this as fast as possible.

I have the same problem, AI plugins don't work. They ask for a package download from Magix site.

The tbb.dll mod may fix it. It involves copying the vegas tbb.dll to the intel directory. do you have an intel cpu? Do you have the ai learning module installed - if not install it first, it is part if v18 installer.

Which intel directory? I'm trying everything to get the Ai Deep Learning to work. I have similar specs 32 gb Asus Zenbook Pro Duo . . .
