VEGAS Post 20 Questions

MH7 wrote on 2/9/2023, 12:38 AM

Alright, so I decided to take the plunge and buy VEGAS Post 20 for the special Aussie (Australian) price of AU$399 (half the price of the regular price of AU$799).

I cannot remember who it was on here (my apologies; I did look at my posts to see if I could find the post by this particular person), but I know that there seems to be a method of activating the complete VEGAS Post 20 suite.

From my memory, it seemed to be something like this:

  1. Open up VEGAS Pro 20 and activate it with your unique serial number.
  2. Then, once inside VEGAS Pro, add anything to the timeline (i.e. image or video).
  3. Right click on media and select the option to open in VEGAS Effects to activate VEGAS Effects.
  4. Then, go back to VEGAS Pro, right click on the media and do the same for VEGAS Image.

I believe this is the method of activation, is it not?

Secondly, I’m just been wondering what Boris FX Primatte Studio actually is?

I’ve got the instructions on how to install and activate it but I’m just curious to know what it actually is.

Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever!

P.S. Any additional required info is in my sig below.

Okay, as far as the method of activating VEGAS Post 20, I found the person who mentioned it. It was @fr0sty in his comment here of one of my posts that confirmed what I remembered in my post above (with numbers added by me).

This is the way I usually go about it...

  1. Activate VEGAS Pro
  2. Launch VEGAS Pro
  3. Drop media on the timeline, right click, "edit in VEGAS Effects". This activates VE.

Can do the same with the "open in VEGAS Image" button on the preview window.

I find it easiest to do it that way.

Well, unless I am mistaken, I do believe that our own Australian Consumer Law (I’d have to look it up) has something about the purchasing of goods if you’re not happy with the purchase of something. I’m sure I’ll be happy with my purchase. But I do believe that we do have certain rights here in Aus for things bought overseas.

Ah, okay. Well I’m sure that’ll come in handy at some point. Thank you.

The following is from the ACCC's website re buying from overseas-based company:

Overseas online businesses

When an online business is based overseas and provides goods or services directly to consumers in Australia, the business must follow the Australian Consumer Law, including the consumer guarantees.

In practice it can be difficult to get a repair, replacement or refund from an overseas business if there is a problem with the product or service, and Australian consumer protection agencies can only provide limited help.

I recall reading something very much along these lines in a Choice article not all that long ago - it may well have been the same ACCC quote.

Also, I don't think that Australian Consumer Law (ACL) covers change of mind refunds - retailers who do offer change of mind refunds are, as far as I am aware, doing that on a voluntary basis.

Thanks for looking that up. I tried looking myself but had some trouble. Oh well, I did think a lot about my purchase of VEGAS Post 20. I never just rush into buying anything. Some might say I’m too cautious. So, when I finally bought the upgrade it was with much thought and consideration. I’m just happy it was half price.

I believe this is the method of activation, is it not?

Yes, it is.
It doesn't even have to be that complicated. If you install VEGAS Effetcs correctly (it will put a "VegasEffects.fio2007-config" in VEGAS Installation directory) , VEGAS Effects will be auto activated when VEGAS Pro starts.

Secondly, I’m just been wondering what Boris FX Primatte Studio actually is?

I’m just curious to know what it actually is.

It is the best Chroma Key FX in the world, integrating Academy Award-nominated Primatte technology and integrated Academy Award-winning Mocha. Here are some tutorials on it:

When I was trying to trial Post and couldn't, I contacted live chat. Their suggestion was to buy it and I'd have 14 days to decide before asking for a refund. There was no mention of where I lived on the planet.

Now, do they know who I actually am and where I reside?

When I was trying to trial Post and couldn't,

@Reyfox To test a trial, you need to de-activate the existing Vegas on your system and then request a trial serial number to input.

I don’t believe that’s the case, unless it’s a subscription, because you can have multiple versions of VEGAS Pro install on a single PC.

To your question, I’d have to think they’d have to know something about your location because there are different version of the www.vegascreativesoftware.com site. For example, the site in my location, Australia, the website is www.vegascreativesoftware.com/au/. And in the email I got that mentioned about “cancelling the contract” they did not mention that disclaimer. @Reyfox brings up a good point.

@lan-mLMC at the time, I had VP19 installed and VP20 was released. I was considering getting Post instead of Edit/Pro. So it would not have been because I already had VP20 installed, I didn't at the time.

Live chat said I'd have to buy and try for 14 days if I wanted a refund. There was no "trial" version of Vegas Post even though they have it listed as a download. The only software that will work if you try the download would be Vegas only. Neither Image or Effects, which are installed, will open. And yes, I did have the trial serial number for Vegas, which did work.

@MH7, I have bank accounts in both the US and here in Poland (EU). When I was in "chat" it was made while I was here in Poland., so maybe they knew and said 14 days. But I am not sure. When I open the Magix website and it asks for country location, I select United States.

Ah, okay. Well, for what it’s worth, I sent an email to MAGIX asking about this that, despite not currently wanting to obtain a refund for my purchase of VEGAS Post 20 at this present time, because it’s currently working fine on my computer system, if it would be at all possible for me to obtain one or would I be disqualified from obtaining a refund because of the fact that my country, Australia, not being in the EU or EEA?

I just sent the email about 9 minutes ago so I’ll have to wait and see what they say.

It appears, from my experience, that despite what is said in MAGIX’ Terms and Conditions, people outside the EU or EEA can still receive that 14 day withdrawal period and obtain a refund with no explanation whatsoever, as per the terms.
