Vegas Pro 15 Lagging Issues

neblackshirts wrote on 11/30/2017, 12:18 PM

Is anyone else having lagging issues with VP 15? Below is what I mean by "lagging":

  • takes at least twice as long to import video into a project compared to VP 14
  • scrubbing video in trimmer window is choppy/lags and is very difficult to scrub through
  • preview window is choppy even at lowest preview settings with basic raw footage. Playback is almost unusable when effects are added to clip (basic LUT effect prevents smooth preview)

I am having these issues with most file types. VP 15 really struggles with 4K footage from my C200 especially...and it's not the new RawLite files, it's standard 4K UHD MP4 video files. My VP 14 works flawlessly with all file types and does NOT struggle with any of the issues listed above. Below are my computer specs, which should be more than enough:

  • Processor: Intel - Core i7-5930K 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
  • Memory: 32GB DDR4-2666 Memory
  • GPU: Radeon R9 390 8GB Video Card
  • Editing Drive: 512GB M.2-2280 SSD

I do love the look and layout of VP 15 and some of the new features that were added, however, it's currently unusable and I've gone back to VP 14. Again, I have zero issues with VP 14 with the exact same projects. It makes no sense. Any ideas?

Firstly, update to the brand new VP15 build 261.

If that doesn't fix it, try disabling so4compoundplug.dll.

If that doesn't work then you may be experiencing a general performance issue that's been reported with VP15.

Beyond that, see smooth playback tips here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-make-my-video-preview-play-smoothly-in-vegas-pro--104624/

Please let us know if anything works.

Nick - thanks for the quick reply! I am currently running the latest build 261 and still am having the lagging issues. I have also tried all of the options in the "how can I make my video preview play smoothly in Vegas Pro" thread to no avail as well. I'll try disabling so4compoundplug.dll and report back. Fingers crossed. Thanks again!

I'm having a similar experience and at the moment I am REALLY regretting spending all that money to "upgrade" to 15. I ran 13 no problem. I ran 14 no problem. My computer is plenty strong, 4.0 GHz i7, GTX970, 16 GB RAM and everything on SSDs. Same camera, same file types, and so far the performance of 15 is noticeably WORSE than 14.

The biggest reason I went for 15 after already having 14 was that it was supposedly "faster." Thus far it feels more like a downgrade. And as I am using the same exact filetypes of the same exact camera, I am not willing to sit here and re-render everything over and over to "make it easier" on Vegas. A $900 program should handle this no problem, especially considering that its predecessor could.

PC build (2024):
i9-12900K

ASUS PRIME Z790-V AX motherboard

ASUS Tuf 4070 Ti Super OC edition GPU on latest NVIDIA studio driver

CORSAIR 7000D AF FT TG EATX BLACK case

Samsung E 2TB 990PRO NVME GEN4 SSD (boot and program installs)

Samsung E 4TB 990PRO W HS M.2 PCIE (source files)

TeamGroup 64GB TCRT OC 6000 CL34 RAM

NZXT KRAKEN 360 AIO cooler
ASUS Tuf Gaming 850W Gold PSU

Windows 11 Pro
Vegas Pro 22
Vegas Pro 19
Vegas Pro 14
etc.

@Nick Hope

Hello! I was hoping to get some help on this issue too. I have files from the Fujifilm x-t3. They are 4K h.264 mov files with long gop 200mbs

Yes I know these are not ALL-I codecs or codecs super friendly to Vegas. At moments I am able to play them smooth then other moments in lags SUPER BAD!!! It makes editing impossible
I am able to play them butter smooth in Davinci resolve 15. No hiccups at all. I am just so used to Vegas that I prefer to use that as my editor.

Also making proxies is soooo slow in Vegas. I would make proxies in DR but I just don't want to add another step. I need super fast turn around unfortunately. I tried all of this:

"If that doesn't fix it, try disabling so4compoundplug.dll.

If that doesn't work then you may be experiencing a general performance issue that's been reported with VP15.

Beyond that, see smooth playback tips here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-make-my-video-preview-play-smoothly-in-vegas-pro--104624/"

Still doesn't work. Is there something I am missing? Would upgrading to 16 help?

Vegas Pro 15 build 387

Intel i5 8600K 3.60GHz

32GB DDR4

Navidia 1050 2GB graphics card

@Hjfilmspeed Pretty much all the suggestions I know about are referenced in that post you linked to.

There have been 2 other reports of poor x-t3 playback (here and here) but those are both H.265, for which stuttery performance is more understandable. Are you sure yours is H.264? Could you post a MediaInfo report for it and maybe even share a sample? Or find a sample at the bottom of this page that matches your format and performance and let us know which one it is.
