I agree, don't expect too much - it has only been a year after a major business restructuring. Nothing sad or strange, just requires a little patience. :)

But as always I will hope for a miracle! :)

With nested projects, you need to constantly switch between the two running Vegas pro. This requires more resources and memory. In a professional environment, the use of sequences within one program is absolutely necessary. Nested projects are compromise solution.

Many of my VEG templates are built with linked editable Adobe Fireworks PNG files for text layouts, lower-thirds, alpha-channel graphics, drop-shadows, masks, animations, etc...

When I use these VEG templates within another VEG project all I have to do is re-edit the linked PNG files to alter the content of the template without having to ever open the original VEG template file. This has proven to be very effective when I need to quickly generate a bunch of finished videos that share a common look or style.

I can confirm that lots of non Vegas users don't know about what Vegas Pro is capable of. Some features are "hidden" I mean if you never or barely use Vegas you can't find them and how they exactly work. I found that by using Vegasaur it's a little bit easier to use nests but it's still not the same as it is in Premiere.

Vegausaur is a 3rd part plug-in ,if vegas pro has its own tools ,it is better ! right?

PeterWright wrote on 8/14/2017, 12:05 AM

Not necessarily. One of Vegas's huge assets is Application Scripting, and plug-ins like UltimateS Pro and Vegasaur, and others use this to save hours of time by automating so many tasks.

altarvic wrote on 8/14/2017, 1:20 AM

Scripting is the best feature of Vegas (imho). Scripts allow to enrich Vegas with lots of new features and functions.

For example, Adobe After Effects is one of the most powerful programs for creating motion graphics and effects, but websites like aescripts.com have hundreds of scripts. They save huge amount of time.

Yes, I agree, scripts are very useful! Tell me the 5 most important scripts which you use?

Hopefully you guys have done something about one of the most annoying things in the latest Vegas versions (It was way better in early versions) , which is that it is terribly hard to find the sweet spot in the corners of the footage clips to drag a fade in/ fade out into it.... This is hardly impossible to do sometimes and drives me mad.

I do not have Vegas 14, but I think this should be configurable from the the hidden 'Int' menu. From memory there are some settings for how magnetic the snapping behaviour is. If you look in the values on an installation of an earlier release of Vegas that behaves as you require you may be able to just manually copy the settings across and get something that works a little better for you.

In my experience Quicksync renders can suffer quality wise, so I would be inclined to recommend it only when swift turnaround of renders is required (i.e. for a time sensitive Youtube project for example). I would not want to use it for any quality renders for Bluray or similar output.

Robert W wrote on 8/14/2017, 2:05 PM

There is one feature that could be restored to Vegas that would be much more valuable than the half hearted attempts at supporting GPU acceleration, and old hat like QuickSync; The Network Rendering function. I know some people thought the feature was obsolete before it even started, but this is how I would use it: I would start a separate instance of Vegas for each core of my PC and give each instance of the application access to just one of those cores. I would do the render across that one machine. I would have it render to the lossless format of my choosing (Lagarith) and then I would convert to my final output format using FFMPeg or something else that is able to render in decent quality at a decent speed. I think I am likely to see a massive increase in my render times, even with the additional rendering step from Lagarith. Vegas is just not capable of utilizing the CPU resource available to it any other way. I think I should test this manually...

@VEGAS_CommunityManager I just purchased the upgrade to VEGAS Pro 14 Suite a few minutes ago and then came here to catch up on the Forums while it was installing. Much to my surprise (I say that because I did not receive a communique from Magix about information pertaining to release 15, only the upgrade sale on 14), I am now reading that 15 releases in a few weeks; any word on what I am to expect the upgrade cost to be (free I hope and trust)?

Thanks in advance, brother!

What about DVD Architect? We need an update to it. Multi-channel audio support (especially 7.1 24bit LPCM, so my band can finally start releasing high-res multichannel mixes of our material!) for DVD and Blu-Ray, improvements to the encoder's speed, more options for creating buttons in addition to the existing library of presets. Maybe even a system for labeling the discs after they've been burned? Also, the ability to send video direct from a Vegas project into DVDA without encoding. Let us highlight a region, then select "send to DVD Architect" and it pops up in the media list in DVDA.

Great post! DvD architect also needs more codec support. Like 4k files and Hevc support.

Thank you all for your feedback and interest in the upcoming VEGAS Pro version. It's always great to see how passionate this community is!

There are less than two weeks left, so please wait the little more for detailed information. As always, I will post the patch notes as soon as we release the product.

@3DPro If you can't wait until the release and therefore the official upgrade offer, please get in contact with our support. They should be able to answer your question(s).

Best regards
Mathias

Perhaps we should keep a list of all the known (old) bugs? - us, the community I mean.

What do you guys think?

Where I worked in the software industry for 16 years, we had internal tracking systems for bugs, enhancements and core build-out work. We prioritized from this list, and for customers who submitted bug reports to us, we'd update them on where they sat in our development queue (with critical bugs obviously getting higher attention).

It would seem to me that the Vegas development team would have the most complete and comprehensive list; for us users to try to duplicate the effort seems somewhat less-than-idea, but is better than not having any known list.

@VEGAS_CommunityManager -- is there any chance your team could host/publish such a list?

Ed T's Excaliber has been critical to my multi-camera production work -- despite Vegas's multi-camera features, the Excaliber workflow still is our preferred method for all our stage production work.

Since I've discovered Vegasaur (add-on available via scripting extensions) I've saved a TON of time.. love love love love love this one... can't believe it took me so long to discover it.

John F's Scattershot.. used it for several projects now.. lovely work!

I recently found myself needing to transpose LOTS of media events that were sequentially on one track, to separate tracks (to support the Scattershot workflow). Cut, drag, paste.. insert more tracks.. cut, drag, paste..... scroll move some down... repeat. VERY time consuming. So I wrote my first script to transpose all (or selected) events from one track onto their own individual tracks. YES YES YES! Endless possibilities with the scripting, I was grateful to have the ability to do this.

I paid for upgrade from 13 to 14 $199 but I can't use at all, because of crashes we should get 15 for free or full refund

I do not think it would be too much to get the official line on this out in the open. I am not happy that I received an email yesterday morning from Magix, begging me to upgrade to Vegas 14, even though 15 has already been announced. It is a completely dishonest way to do business. it is not helped by every promotional email claiming it is offering a wonderful new upgrade pricing, when in fact every single email has exactly the same upgrade pricing.

And what happened to the Dolby Pro AC3 codec being restored at no further expense in the Vegas 14 release series!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sadly Vegas still has stupid bugs what are very annoying especially when you need to finish multiple projects in time. For example when I click on a pan/crop keyframe it crashes for no reason at all, I think when you speed up an event sometimes there is a bug at crop keyframes. The most annoying is when I CTRL+Z (Undo) and it crashes for no reason. I keep saving my project in every 3 minutes and make more project files because it's still very unstable.

Able to import/export vp9-files? (which should be very important vor VirtualReality-streams !!!)

I would very much like Vegas Pro 15 to import MKV files.

Every time I need to edit an MKV file, I need to convert (without loss) with XMedia Recode to .MP4 when using the Vegas timeline.

Vegas Pro 15 could also export to MKV, with chapter markers and multiple audio tracks. Vegas Pro 15 could also export region names as subtitle embedded in the MKV file.
