? .veg files are saved... not "rendered" per se... on my system the saving process is almost immediate, and usually anytime there's a background operation going on, there's a progress bar in the bottom left. Can you elaborate more about this freezing you are experiencing?

Perhaps 'not rendered', but 'audio proxy generated'.

@fr0sty he's referring to nested veg files, which have to be rendered to be usable in an upper-level project

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

@fr0sty
In the German version - if the audio proxy are generated - it is translated as "render".

From 7 to 25 and from 1:30 to 1:52 Vegas Pro 18 leaves me unclear whether it is working in the background or not. I would like a progress bar or some other notification.

Interesting, I seem to remember getting notifications of proxy creation for nested projects. I'll test it out later today when I get some free time, and I'll pass it along to the dev team if I can reproduce it (assuming they haven't already read this).

Just to try, I have the 1080Ti and it is working really well with V18 using driver 456.71 - maybe give it ago (no studio version of this driver yet available) - also set dynamic ram preview to 0. ( W10 build 19041.546)

I discovered they now have a studio version of the driver and updated to that. I've now resorted to ctrl-S after every change to my timeline...

I've been using Vegas since 3.0 for paid work. Last week I edited over 15 hours of 4K video for paying clients using the last update of V18 & did not have one single crash. Not one! So happy! Also, when I rendered-out the final client videos, I opened (6) instances of Vegas and had (5) rendering approx. one hour of video each to 5 different codecs (each) while I edited the next project in a 6th instance of Vegas without any issues. My 9900K CPU was at 100% usage and VEGA 64 LQ at almost 50% usage nearly 8-9 hours per day plus I allowed some of the renders to finish after I left for the day without incident...

Not only am I happy with editing within Vegas 18 but also with how well it performs on my system when multiple instances are running. I really don't need to upgrade another workstation to do background renders since multiple instances of V18 are running so smoothly. My $200 upgraded saved me $1500+ in hardware upgrades (for now) and I just made my first $2,000 using V18 from start to finish... Honestly, since I had no crashes & everything was running well during background renders it probably saved me a day of work vs. using V15-V17 for the same projects...

BTW, ALL of the drives on my 9900K system are super-fast otherwise if you have a lot of stuff background rendering your project in the foreground will stall occasionally... I have a mix of M.2 and larger SATA drives all in RAID0 configurations with backups across a 10G network...
