VEGAS Pro 20 Build 411 General Thread

Comments

walter-i. wrote on 6/22/2023, 5:14 AM

I just downloaded Vegas pro 19. How do I set it up for dual monitor display? I want to move the preview screen and other tools to a second monitor and leave the other for multi track display.

As stated in the opening post to this thread:

If you are having any issues using the update or have specific questions, please create a new thread.

This thread is for feedback on the new version (20) only

Hello! Going for my first try on parallels. Been using Vegas since sonic foundry put it out 20+ years ago. Still use Vegas 10 on my old windows machine. I’ve since gone Mac. I installed Parallels and have been trying to install Vegas for days. It’s an M1 8 core 8gig unified ram and 1T storage.

I had trouble getting the trial to load, so I bought Vegas Post subscription. Installs everything but Vegas 20. Sound forge seemed to work.

Am I asking too much of my M1 air? I have an M1 Pro, but afraid to install parallels on a $4000 machine.

fr0sty wrote on 6/22/2023, 12:50 PM

You likely won't get very good performance on a Mac using VEGAS, as it is not optimized to run on the M1, and emulating it will kill performance even more. Much better off getting a PC. You can get one that will outrun the M1 Pro for a lot cheaper than $4000.

For many years, I've always gone through projects to make sure that the edges of all video events are quantized before rendering. The reason: unquantized video edges create a video image of less than 1 frame in length and were skipped in rendering thus causing a black frame in the render for each unquantized frame.

Unquantized audio events are not an issue.

As Dexcon states it is better to just quantize them rather than disable this important warning (which is why I didn't recommend turning it off in options).

quantizing frames frame in Vegas, I have been editing videos in Vegas for several years now, I use multicam with all shot same frame rates. I still even today do not understand what quantizing frames actually does. I turned it off a few years ago as it makes syncing my footage difficult. Should I leave it on all the time except for syncing at the start of the video, and what the heck it is actually doing?

@joseph-desaavedra  ... please refer back to my earlier comment:

For many years, I've always gone through projects to make sure that the edges of all video events are quantized before rendering. The reason: unquantized video edges create a video image of less than 1 frame in length and were skipped in rendering thus causing a black frame in the render for each unquantized frame.

You don't have to have it on all the time, but do activate it before rendering to get rid of all unquantized video edges.

But if you are happy with the possibility of black frames in your renders, ignore the unquantized red edge warnings.

Re syncing with the audio track, that shouldn't be a problem if the audio is grouped with the video because the audio will slip L or R when you move the video event L or R.

I have never had black frames in 370 videos, I will leave it on during before rending and just leave warnings off as the red is distracting when editing. I am just having problems understanding what it actually does for editing videos. I guess my question is what is it doing under the hood? so I can understand if it is actually doing something in relation to the content that I am making. Make sense?

It keeps the content of your video from spilling over frame boundaries which can lead to render errors and failed renders.

Quantization to frames is a basic step in editing so just shorten the red part until it disappears and you'll no longer have an issue. Tools like Vegasaur can do it all at once.

Anyone else experiencing stuttering lag and loading times with this new build 411 only When you try to color grade certain video formats or open projects from older Builds which are already color graded.? cause i cant even color grade a single clip the moment i apply Vegas Color grade loading times takes forever then when it does open the sliders are all laggy and slow almost unusable to work with.
