Yeah, the usual rude comments and disrespect towards the Vegas developers !
If you NEED your software to work "well", and you get a myriad of problems, like CHUGGING previews, frequent time line crashes and artifacts...it gets a little frustrating.
I have three copies of Vegas 19. Crashes have dropped to very, very few. But the CHUGGING on three different computers with three different versions of hardware at standard 1080p...is just not gonna cut it against Davinci Resolve.
I have not decided if I am going to make the move. I've tried everything for a stable, consistent Vegas experience. I dunno. Perhaps the final straw is the fact after buying three Vegas 19 licenses I find out I have to buy a Vegas 360 license to get the text to speech...thats almost sealed my move to DaVinci.
Zdo... I mean Seb-o, you keep kicking the same dead horse even though you've been told over, and over, and over exactly why we aren't seeing those improvements yet... there simply hasn't been time to implement them. VEGAS had to spend years playing catch up after Sony left VEGAS to die, and they're only just now reaching the point where they can back off a bit and work on the foundation itself. Performance improvements do not sell software, you need new features as well, especially when you are not anywhere near feature parity with the compettiion and the community is loudly demanding those features be put in place.
You may notice that VEGAS 20 is lighter on features than previous versions... there's reasons for this... some of which are addressing exactly what you are complaining about.
Will my 5950X 6800XT 64GB ram machine be able to preview buttery smooth 1080p? One day? Three different machines, the same chuggy frame dropping preview its always been. I'm sick of it when Resolve is such a winner in every sense. I'll give it 12 more months then I drop Vegas - all three licenses. I'm playing with Resolve in my spare time till then. So please, get it cranking on the video play back and high res codecs please...and I don't mean 1080p. I dont even bother trying to scrub 4K and a 6800XT and 5950X should not be building 4K proxies.
Please get the codecs for GPU's right. Playback scrubbing etc.
I didn't realize that Resolve came with Text to Speech and Speech to Text with its perpetual license... Last time I checked, you had to buy a paid plugin to get the same feature in Resolve. I'm getting smooth previews on all 1080p media, and all 8 bit 4k media... what kind of media are you using?
I've been editing 10 bit video in VEGAS since VEGAS 16... older versions than that could do it to, but not in HDR. For 10 bit 4:2:2 video, you have to use proxies, as GPUs do not support hardware decoding of it, but it works great.
Perhaps the final straw is the fact after buying three Vegas 19 licenses I find out I have to buy a Vegas 360 license to get the text to speech...thats almost sealed my move to DaVinci.
@bev-sBev text to speech is great, but you could get around without the 365, just go to microsoft azure website and try the demo window on their website to type on text to speech and record what you hear (yes it is more work and less conveniant than using Vegas 365) but it is the same technology (Vegas uses MS Azure services). An alternative is to use Magix's Music Maker 64 (as to my surprise there is also a text to speech capability inside Music Maker 64 (altough there the language seems limited to English only)...
Also, that workaround doesn't address speech to text... Magix is considering ways to allow people who bought a perpetual license to subscribe to the online-enabled features for a lower fee than paying for a full 365 subscription... no idea on the progress of that, though. These services cost them money perpetually, as long as you use the product, so there is no logical way to go about including lifetime access in a perpetual license to something that will be costing them money each month for you to use it. As such, some subscription based features have to be exclusive to a Hub/365 subscription.

Hi, Does anyone know if in V20 the search in Video Event FX now finds the presets as well, when i search in V19 it only finds the main category, but if i scroll down all my fxs with the ∇ button on the keyboard, Search will then find any/all preset
Does V Pro 20 has added audio sync for timeline to sunc audio of 2 or 3 camera audio etc. I have been using until VP 17 with Plural Eyes v4. But after VP 17 it does not recognize in VP.
This feature is a must.
Also, Plural Eyes has been taken over by Maxon. And its only available in subscription that too with a bundle which is not at all affordable
I thought so too, but after contacting them they told me there is a perpetual license for PE4, when you go to their "perpetual licence" menu. I then actually found and got it, it's 295€.
Mesh Warp isn't an AI deep learning effect (the only AI effects are colorization, upscale, style transfer, and scene detection)... something deeper than that is going on. Also, the deep learning models for 20 are different than for 19, make sure you have the right ones installed.
Thank you for your response. All that was properly installed.
Unfortunately all the Magix effects such as Mesh Warp do not appear in my effects window. I have gotten no further response from Magix.
Mesh Warp is a useful effect. It would be nice to have this problem solved. I will open an extra ticket here in this forum. I wonder if other people also have this issue.

I'd suggest trying the demo, that way you know for sure it works properly on your system config.
I frequently use (and prefer) "selective-paste" for event attributes over regular "paste event attributes", and was trying to map a hotkey to it (customize keyboard) and can't find it there... am I just missing it? Or was this overlooked when "selective-paste" was created in V18 and not addressed in 19 or 20?
Currently tested in V: 20

PS I was going to add this as a "bug report" but for the life of me can't find a "submit bug report" link for VP!

When I type in the search box for VideoFX it only shows the main effect name, not any presets you might have saved (but it does include all effects that have a present with the thing you searched for)
For example, for VP Brightness and Contrast I have a preset called "Wide-Brighten-Lots".. if I search the VideoFX for "wide", "Brightness and Contrast" does show up in the results. When I click that, my first present with "Wide" in the name is selected.
I think it would be a lovely enhancement to filter the presets to only show the ones that have the search term in it as well.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns Hmm, i'll have a look but if i read that right you're inc the main categories' name in the preset, so it's really only showing the main category, it just happens to have a suitable name to associate, , I have the full Boris collection, Newblue Total FX & a few others, that's a lot of crap to trawl through to find what i want, quite a few BCC ones have Beat Reactor inc in them so i created a preset named Beat for each of them, i just search Beat but that only shows 1 - Beauty Studio, I have made loads of presets for other fxs, some of the Boris stuff i can't remember the name or simply don't know what it means, a lot are lighting filters, so i created a preset Brightness, Color (colour 😒) Transform etc.
Brightness search shows only 3 presets but if i scroll down all of the fxs (my small microphone tripod does the pressing of the down key for me 😉) -
I am an Edius X user/subscriber, and I downloaded the VEGAS Pro 20 trial version because of the recommendations and reviews.
My power died during the install. But now whenever I try to install Vegas 20, it comes up and wants to remove it. I click remove, and it gives me an error:
The following task could not be executed successfully: Removal of VEGAS Pro 20./0 Cause: The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel. (1610) File path: C:\Users\Video\AppData\Local\Temp\mgxdbn4vphe\product\VEGAS_Pro_20_setup_x64.ms_
I did a deep clean of my pc including all program and data folders, as well as removing ant MAGIX and VEGAS Registry entries. Still no luck. I'm pretty adept at getting to the root of problems, but this one has me stumped.
Why is this happening and what is the fix, please?

This situation is typical of rather early stages of tech development at an area being pretended by large monopolistic actors. A simple online search gathers the usual suspects Apple, Microsoft, Google, and a few other small players.
However, an easy online search also produced what seems to be the existence of a varied field of Speech Recognition open source alternatives https://fosspost.org/open-source-speech-recognition/ Prefaced with this insightful introduction: "A speech-to-text (STT) system is as its name implies: A way of transforming the spoken words via sound into textual files that can be used later for any purpose.
Speech recognition technology is extremely useful. It can be used for a lot of applications such as the automation of transcription, writing books/texts using your own sound only, enabling complicated analyses on information using the generated textual files and a lot of other things.
In the past, the speech-to-text technology was dominated by proprietary software and libraries. Open source speech recognition alternatives didn’t exist or existed with extreme limitations and no community around, just like open source ERPs.
This is changing, today there are a lot of open source speech-to-text tools and libraries that you can use right now."
//Hence to Magix' VEGAS, better steer aside specific walled gardens, more so if such associations come at the cost of forced subscription pricing models. It is time for small and middle companies to get along with open sourced initiatives as the ones linked here. Otherwise those anxiety based behemoths mentioned will deter us users, who won't fall for such predatory business practices (a fixed expense misaligned with our irregular income), a while longer. Because within VEGAS or as a plugin, text to speech will arrive, I dare to say, the sooner.
Hello, I have just finished my documentary project, the VP20 was very stable and joy to use for editing and coloring!
1) Until I decided to do sound mixing as I was used to... 😌 The new VST engine does not work for me well... When I add Magix eFX_Vocal Strip (64bit VST2) or eFX_Limiter (64bit VST2), it will crash soon or cause a crash by rendering. I also tried to check "Enable support for 32bit VST..." (btw after closing and re-opening the Preferences dialog window, the checkbox is always unchecked, even if 32bit VST support is "ON"), my old lovely VST plugin "JB Broadcast" crashed Vegas 20 after several seconds. Now I am deciding to render the whole project and do audio mixing in Vegas 19.
2) There is another "little" bug: It was usual, that we could edit audio track envelope nodes precisely by holding Ctrl+left mouse drag while playing back the track. Now you have to stop playback to edit this way.
3) The new button "Transition progress" in some newer transitions is superb, but it is shame, that the transition progress velocity envelope with these transitions is disabled in context menu. It will be great possibility to have both options.
4) The bezier curve transition progress lenght does not update when I change the duration of the transition.
5) It is not possible to edit the keyframe lane node if the value of parameter is below 0 (-1.000 for example), which is sometimes useful.
6) Opening nested timelines is very unstable for me (whole time since it was added), causes often freezing application. It also constantly removes audio FX plugins from an audio bus.
7) I prefer Live save option, it is great and useful. But sometimes (I do not why) I have got this error and I have to restart Vegas. Any tip?
8) My TIP for one little improvement: In the "Render As" dialog, pressing "Project Location" button (changes the path) and then pressing button "Browse" it navigates somewhere to old location, not that project location. Also please, let VEGAS create (sub)folder automatically, if I type nonexisting (subfolder) name in the path manually.
Love VEGAS
Martin

Where in Audio Studio 16 is this text to speech capability? I have a full version of that program and can't find the feature in question.

Vegas isn't a walled garden- it allows third party scripts and plugins. If someone develops such a tool for Vegas, great and it's certainly allowed. Speaking of open source I believe Premiere uses Mozilla's Deep Speech STT tool, which also works offline.
The Azure one may be better quality but it has limitations with its implementation in Vegas making it less than useful for transcribing (file length limits, strange treatment of spacing with Asian characters) so users like myself still have to use third-party services.
I'm not so worried about subscriptions in the Vegas context as they've been clear that while it is an option and purchase options will also continue. We aren't being forced to do anything.

@Elynde Sorry my fault, it is NOT in Magix Audio studio 16, but in Magix Music Maker 64 (I have the premium edition version 2022), I will adapt my previous post; I guess I had to many apps open and my brain did not follow my eyes...
New user here and recently installed. My initial impressions are underwhelming TBH. I shoot quite a lot of 4k GoPro footage at 60fps CFR - these are H265/HEVC. The main issue I have is with the preview window. If I just import the files as is, the preview updates every 5 secs or so and is very choppy and poor quality. If I create proxy files it is better but still choppy and very frustrating to use. I have experimented with converting to H264 before import (same result as using proxy files) but the best result I get is when converting to MPEG2. Problem is, of course, the files are much larger and there is a perceived quality drop.
My system is i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 32GB Ram, Windows 10 Pro, NVidia RTX 3090. Samsung SSD's.
