ticking Legacy AVC will play your file fine, but I confirm there is a GPU decoding fault.

Nizar-AbuZayyad wrote on 8/25/2023, 3:56 AM

@Former user One more thing also, have you observed any delay in responsiveness during editing? When I press 'stop' or 'play' in Vegas, the reaction isn't instant. For example, if I hit the spacebar to stop the video, it continues to play for about half a second more. The same issue occurs with functions like play, fast forward, rewind etc.. I suspect there's something off with this version; it doesn't operate as seamlessly as it should.

RogerS wrote on 8/25/2023, 3:59 AM

Oh dear, sounds like more NVDEC decoding issues.

Since you have a Intel i9 12900K you can avoid this by enabling the iGPU in bios, installing the latest Intel driver for it if needed and having it do decoding (preferences file io).

Nizar-AbuZayyad wrote on 8/25/2023, 4:19 AM

I'm thoroughly disappointed with this new version of Vegas; Version 20 was far superior. My PC settings remain unchanged, and all drivers are up-to-date. Despite this, upgrading to V21 has led to a host of issues, from black screens on MOV files to laggy responsiveness and general instability.

It's incredibly frustrating. I can't identify the issue or find a fix for it. Just yesterday, I terminated my old subscription for Vegas 20 and shelled out $300 for a new Version 21 Post 365 subscription, and I regret it. I have a project due today, and these issues are making it impossible for me to complete my work.

Former user wrote on 8/25/2023, 4:23 AM

@Nizar-AbuZayyad There seems to be some sort of VRAM and Memory leak, I can keep playing a 4K file and VRAM and memory keeps going up. Playing a 4K file for a few minutes and it's using 20GB Vram, it started around 10GB, my ram use was very high too. I stop playing file for a while and Vram and memory goes back to normal levels, 10.3GB Vram. I could see that causing lagging and pauses

Wolfgang S. wrote on 8/25/2023, 4:27 AM

I have just downloaded your footage, imported it in Vegas Pro 21 b108, and have full playback speed with the preview quality best/full. Project settings at HD 24p as you use. So that seems to be no issue with Vegas Pro 21, since it works here like a charm.

BUT I had enabled the i-GPU on my laptop in the file i/o preferences (hardware decoder to use was QSV on Intel Xe Graühics). If I set that theo NVDEC on NIVIDS Gefore RTX 3070 Ti laptop, I am able to repro your issue. Then the preview remains black!

So I agree with Roger - it seems to be an nvidia issue. Use your i-GPU for decoding, then you can edit your AVC footage as an workaround.

Edit: funny enough, it seems to work with the nvenc settings too, but not always. From time to time it works. So with nvenc it seems to be not quite stable, with the i-GPU it is stable really.

Welcome in the not-responding club! :(

I also don't know why Magix don't have much more beta testers to prevent these issues.
I also wrote a DM, but no answer at all. The problem with this well known, used by many users camera is occured within a minute, so how testers doesn't report it is weird. If the issue is 100% at nvidia side, i apologize Magix.

Both clips play fine in V21. With the cat I can add two instances of the clip, fade, apply levels filter to improve the colour, on second instance I can add the legacy stabilizer and stabilize all with no crashes or drop in frame rate at Best full. My PC is way below Nizar and the CPU does not even meet min specs. Looks like it is not a Vegas issue to me. My File I/O below:

@Wolfgang S. can you please show or send a video link on how to "use i-GPU for decoding /  enabled the i-GPU" ? is it in the preferences meno / File I/O ? kindly check the attached screenshots if any settings needs to be changed here

Nobody can test the endless combinations of settings in Vegas and all the type of camera footage that are available.

But since I can repro the issue, I have reported it to the development team some minutes ago.

And the workaround is, to use the i-GPU in his system.

I will try it with DRAM at 66%.

Update, no issue with it set to 66% ran fine.

@Nizar-AbuZayyad If it were the same subscription you could keep using VP 20 (did that contract already end? If not the serial # should still work).

The setting to enable your iGPU is in the bios /UEFI for your motherboard. What brand computer/motherboard is it? Please search online for the key you need to press to take you into the bios upon system restart.

Otherwise you can get to it with "advanced startup" in Windows.

Wrong one. MediaInfo stated it is AVC, not HEVC. Checking enable legacy AVC or changing hardware decoder to use to "none" should be a workaround while you figure out how to enable the iGPU.

Wolfgang S. wrote on 8/25/2023, 4:49 AM

The settings that work here are:

So you have to enable the i-GPU in your system, and then change the settings to the i-GPU.

Now, one can "activate" iGPU and follow the remaining tips, tricks, and suggestions previously. Of course, not a single person will be able to actually "Activate" the iGPU, since it would be directly in front/by you.

iGPU means it is integrated into the CPU. You said it was an i9 12900K. The bios is how you access settings for it. Chief24 even found you the exact settings. Good luck!
