I purchased Vegas 21 Edit Suite and downloaded it to my PC from Magix provided links. I installed Vegas 21 along with all the plugins but it did not place a shortcut to my desktop and fails to open. It starts to reinstall itself and the plugins over and over. I have spent an enormous amount of time trying to find a workaround. I went to where Vegas 21 was installed in my PC to try to create a shortcut that way which it did, but Vegas 21 just tries to reinstall itself over and over again. I contacted Vegas Support over a week ago and they finally answered me today with exactly the same fix I tried to do on my own which doesn't work. I tried turning off my internet and that didn't help. I had the exact same problem with Vegas 20 for weeks before a new update finally fixed the issue. This sort of thing is totally unacceptable for a program that's been out as long as Vegas has. Vegas should never release a new version until they fix the most basic bug of all, the inability to open! I've never had this problem with Resolve or Premiere. Vegas needs to get their act together pronto. I am very disappointed with Vegas and their Support. which is lame at best.

@geo Almost sounds like you made a shortcut to the Vegas installation file and not the Vegas program file in C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 21.0\Vegas210.exe.

Intel Core i7 10700K CPU @ 3.80GHz (to 4.65GHz), NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8GBytes. Memory 32 GBytes DDR4. Also Intel UHD Graphics 630. Mainboard: Dell Inc. PCI-Express 3.0 (8.0 GT/s) Comet Lake. Bench CPU Multi Thread: 5500.5 per CPU-Z.

I've been using Vegas since version 2 so I know my way around. I went to the Vegas210.exe in Program Files. This program has the same bug Vegas 20 did until they came up with an update weeks later and that's my point. Vegas should not release a new version until they get the most basic bug of all fixed.

Vegas Pro 20&21's installation process provides a choice as to whether or not a desktop icon is created.

After clicking on the .exe installation file, the first window that appears is:

Clicking on "Change default settings" leads to:

... where a checkbox can be checked to create a desktop icon if so wanted.

I'm not sure that this process can be depicted as being a 'bug' (an unintended computer programming mistake).

@Dexcon, I do think that it should be on the main install screen. Most "default" settings of software add a desktop shortcut to launch the software.

But there is no "bug".

Personally, I've found it better to create my own shortcut afterwards. When VEGAS creates it, it creates a new one every time a new update is installed and it "moves" to another location on the desktop. When I create it after the first install, it just stays where I put it and it only has to be created the first time.

geo wrote on 9/29/2023, 11:10 PM

My Vegas 21 installer gave the option to place a shortcut on my desktop and I selected it. But Vegas 21 did not install one. And worse of all Vegas 21 does not install on my Lenovo Legion 15i at all. You will not find it in Programs and the Vegas Folder is empty.

Vegas 21 fails to install on my Legion 15i laptop. That my friend is a huge bug.

Can you be more specific with what happened with the failed installation? Where did it stop?

@Darkheaven Vegas does this really stupid thing of closing the software on startup if it can't get license information, and the stupid part is it doesn't tell you that, you have no idea if it's a license issue or if it's an actual crash which also happens unrelated to license.

With Adobe very rarely when I open adobe software I"ll get a message saying I don't have a subscription for this product, but because I know I do, I go through the usual steps of logging into adobe again on browser and creative cloud app. Then everything works again, problem solved.

Your problem could be illegitimate software, a problem with license authentication or something else completely unrelated.

Ok thanks for the answer, so basically i've got a problem but i can't predict how to fix it x) and vegas 16 before had no problem. Is there a way to contact support service ? I saw they had it but only for other video software not for vegas.

VP21 in 8-bit mode with a large number of 5K HEVC clips...so far this is working for me. Not a small difference. Huge difference in stability. Not crashing every time I close the program. VST3's not hanging everything up. Not crashing when I try to preview in Best mode. Starting every time normally, too.

At least in 8-bit mode, for the first time in years, this is working like a normal piece of software. I'm really, really pleasantly surprised. Whatever you did (plus the new NVidia driver) really seems to have worked for me. Admittedly I'm afraid to try things out in 32 bit, but for now...

Thank you.

Please do not flame my post because I do not respond.

I see a lot of info here and a lot of bugs and problems and a lot of "we are dealing with the issue"

This is NOT VERY COMFORTING for someone who is seriously interested in buying the VEGAS PRO editing program. I hear also that SAPPHIRE plugins do not load. Also a big negative.

The methods given to buy this product are so annoying that it almost precludes any purchase.

I do not care what other companies are doing like Adobe eg but this subscription bullsh1t has got to be dumped.

Also why not make it simple to just buy the basic VEGAS outright with all the addons. I do not care about the money but I do care about efficiency and not a headache etc. Why do you people need to do everything to constantly protect yourselves when every body knows that you can get a pirated version all over the internet. All so people like me who want to buy are forced to go thru a mess of a sales method. Just idiotic. Come on people. Be better be simpler, go back to the days when a program was standalone system with maybe a few plugins etc and stop with this madness. You would make more money by concentrating on quality than on bullsh1t versions etc and crazy sales methods. Time to rethink your strategy. Seriously.

Reyfox wrote on 10/3/2023, 5:54 AM

@chris-f6435, take a trip to any user forum for just about any software and what you will read is mostly issues. And it doesn't matter what editing software forum you go to.

As for Sapphire, wrong. I have Sapphire units working just fine.

You have purchasing options with Vegas. You can buy perpetual license to Vegas, subscribe by the month or year, smartsubscribe for 2 years and keep Vegas software (sans 365) forever, etc., I suggest you ask before posting misinformation or do your due diligence before posting.

You can buy Vegas Post perpetual if you like, or Vegas Pro Edit, or Vegas Pro Suite. As for addons from third party vendors such as Boris FX, you have to go to their site to buy, just like anything other editing software would require. Look for OFX. But Vegas Post and Suite do include some from Boris FX.

As for pirated stuff on the internet, that is stealing, and I hope those that do this get their work pirated one day.

I think it's time you do some research before dropping profanity and spouting information that is just not factual at all.

If you want to know something, ask instead of speculating and making yourself look ......

@chris-f6435 Not here to flame but there is a basic version of VEGAS- it's called the "Edit" package and what I started with myself. You can either get it outright or as an update if you have a license. It has the basic program with base transitions, Fx, etc.

For bugs and problems the important thing is to see if it works for YOU. There is a free trial that I would recommend to anyone considering the purchase. Make a project and ensure it works with your media and hardware.

chris-f6435 wrote on 10/4/2023, 2:02 PM

@ Reyfox - You obviously did not get the message I was on about but then again who cares. I used no profanity just indicated my genuine concern regarding this software. The latest version of Vegas does have a problem with Sapphire but you may be a lucky one. The number of options are known to me as I did research them but they were all way too complicated for my liking and none of them except with subscription were close to what I want. I absolutely refuse to use this subscription BS and that is my right and it is Maxons right to offer it and here we have an impass. That is the reality. In regards to trials. They do not allow for testing of their speech to text eg. So yet again totally useless. Now please read what I am saying rather than having a hissy fit. GN

RogerS wrote on 10/4/2023, 2:34 PM

The basic perpetual version of VEGAS doesn't include any online services- maybe someday you can pay extra for a package to access it for a period of time but that doesn't exist. There are other ways of doing speech to text though. I use Whisper through Subtitle Edit in addition to what I have with POST 365.
