VEGAS Pro 21 Build 314 and 315 General Thread

1. Since the new update a couple of days ago, each time I make a cut on my time line (s), it only applies to the video or audio track I am on, though both tracks are of the same footage. What can be done?

This is what should happen:

  • If no video or audio event is highlighted on the timeline, then a split will affect all video and audio events on the timeline at the split point.
  • If the video and audio event are grouped, then if only one of the events is highlighted (i.e. video or audio), then both video and audio will be split.
  • If the video and audio events are ungrouped, then only the highlighted event will be split.
  • If you have a number of video or audio events stacked on the timeline (i.e. multiple tracks one above the other), only the highlighted events will be split - though grouped events will also be included in the split even if not highlighted.

Thank you for your clear explanation. But....once I have made that cut and try to move the cut clip (both video and audio tracks) to another track, it still only moves one track at the time, even though both video and audio tracks are grouped together.

...once I have made that cut and try to move the cut clip (both video and audio tracks) to another track,

To move to a new track, you need to have both the video and audio events highlighted - grouping has no effect on moving tracks up or down no doubt due to - in complex timelines - moving a video up or down a track for a particular video reason shouldn't mean that its audio track is moved to another audio track because moving the audio event up/down may move the audio event to a track that adds or loses a track level FX or loses an applied volume envelope.

And vice-versa if moving an audio event, moving its matched video event to another track may move that event to a track with other track level FX applied or even to a track with track motion applied which would totally mess up that video event.

Could you please add support for 360° Cameras like from Insta360? I think Insta360 is big enough to support it. There's also a new camera called Insta 360 X4 with 8K

@Rony-Alfandary, @Dexcon After selecting one event in a group, press Shift - G to select all the events in the group. Then you can move both Video and Audio when you drag as long as there are tracks paired as video and audio that you are moving/dragging over. Otherwise, one of the tracks will stay behind. If you keep dragging past the bottom, new tracks will be created, and the Video/Audio pair will come together.

There is an internal option named "Event Group Selection" that if set to TRUE, then when you select one event in a group, the other events in the group are automatically selected as well. Note, this will only apply to events that you place on the timeline after setting that option.

The other stuff about what track has what effect or motion, I don't have any suggestions.

Thank you for that. Where do I find that internal option?

Dexcon wrote on 5/29/2024, 10:25 PM

@Rony-Alfandary  ... To get to Internal Preferences, hold down the Shift key while clicking on the Options menu item. At the bottom of the context window that opens, there will be a new menu item named 'Internal...'. Click on Internal... and, in the window that opens, there will be a search field at the bottom of the window where you can type in Event Group Selection. This will identify just that setting:

Overtype FALSE with TRUE and then click Apply and then OK.

I must admit that I wasn't aware of that internal setting so it is good to have found out about it.

I didn't think to write this but I have updated to version VP21 version 315 and I am having problems with the audio that cuts out all the time and everything flows slower, I think I will need to go back to Vegas Pro 20 which worked better or see other alternatives

Try 21.208. It's like 20 but with bugfixes.

Or enable legacy AVC or experimental HEVC in preferences, file io in 21.315.

Since updating to the latest build, I've noticed a bug in which rendering 4K footage to a 1080 output file results in random shots being zoomed in. I have a mix of 1080 and 4K footage on a 1080 project timeline. Everything looks correct when watching in the preview window. But when I go to render a 1080 mp4, random shots will be zoomed in. And while it happens to different clips every time I render, the one constant I've noticed is that it only happens to 4K clips. My workaround was to change to a 4K project and render to a 4K mp4 and everything looked fine. But there does seem to be an issue with 4K footage not resizing properly when rendering to a lower resolution.

Looking at how well they've been supporting it recently, decided to throw Magix a bone and picked up VP21 Suite. Don't quite know what I'm going to do with it yet, but I hope this lasts me a long while.

Oh well 300 314 and 315 are crash generators. they had it working and screwed it up (again) back to 208 and hope for the best. Just wow, and before anyone asked I did all the trouble shooting I am very well versed in that after over 5 years. All I can say is Vegas stop beta testing on your paying devoted customers.

You obviously didn't do all the troubleshooting, as reaching out to the community is part of that process.

RogerS wrote on 6/3/2024, 1:53 AM

I think it's a valid perspective for a customer to have who just wants to use the software. There are several issues with 315 that aren't possible to work around. 208 is the last mature build of 21.

@joseph-desaavedra I'm going to ask anyway. Did your troubleshooting include setting these preferences? They restore the so4compoundplug decoder that build 208 uses, and may help with your crashes.

joseph-desaavedra wrote on 6/3/2024, 5:37 AM

yes I did. back to 208 until the next version. Just a little frustrated as was in the middle of a project and as you know since I saved it in 315 I could not downgrade to 208 until I was done without starting from scratch. Thanks. have not experienced crashing like this since version 16 and 17. Hope they fix it before version 22

I was at least putting it out there in hopes that maybe, just maybe, someone from the development team would see that there is an issue as they rarely respond to direct inquiry . But defensive responses that assign blame to me the paying customer are a reason I am reluctant to post here.

I agree that this is a hair pulling exercise. But without knowing more about points like your project settings, your settings in preferences file i/o, the footage you use, at what operations Vegas crashes - well then it is hard to see how we could ensure that this crashes are fixed. What developers cannot repro, will be hard to correct.

Nobody blames you, but we would need much more details. Up to you.

@joseph-desaavedra never update in the middle of a project. What you could have done though, is open a previous version of Vegas, in addition to VP21 B315. Copy the timeline and paste it in a previous version (VP20, 19) and save it. Then you can do your removal of B315 and install B208, copy/paste again.

Yeah.. a pain, but it has worked for me in the past.

Side note, I've found B315 to be working fine on my computer with the footage I edit.
