Vegas Pro 23 Text Animation Stuttering

Sooxzay wrote on 11/1/2025, 11:41 AM

As soon as text elements get animations or motion elements like a zoom effect the stuttering in my preview begins. Not only in Vegas Pro 23 is this an issue but it still is in version 22 and 21 aswell and I bet in every other version aswell.

Why? Because Vegas Pro text generator does not use GPU acceleration when it comes to zoom or blur effects.
Even on higher resolutions like 4K or motion blur scaling vegas needs to render every frame.

And no the solution is not to reduce the preview quality to draft auto or something. It still stutters like hell.

Im using a 16 core CPU, 64 GB Ram and a 4070 TI Super with 16 GB and still cannot work fluently on vegas pro version 23.

You see the marketing on vegas pro 23 and they say "Preview is as smooth as it was never before". Sure. If you don't use text animations that's true.

But how is it that still in 2025 you cannot work with text animations without stuttering? How am I supposed to craft a nice animation with a fade out if I don't even see how it would look like?

I checked my video settings in pro 23 by the way and GPU acceleration is active and I also increased RAM usage to 16 GB for preview which doesn't help aswell.

Can the devs finally find a solution for this? For decades you cannot even fully use all functions of vegas without stuttering or being restricted in your workflow..

I mean at least the Apple ProRes issues are fixed in the latest version now.

I guess you don't spend too much time reading here in the forum. This issue has been posted several times before and addressed by one of the developers. It is a common issue/complaint.

To help you, I'll summarize it a bit..... yes, they say the text editor is old and needs to be replaced. And that it is on the "to do" list. It will require a total re-write and the staff to do it. In other words, a new title editor. And while titles are extremely important, they have bigger things to sort out at the moment.

Thank you for clarification and summarizing. And no, I actually go into the forums when I have complains since I won't post about suggestions. Key elements need to function. Its no offense to the devs or anything but an editor that wants to be able to use all tools he paid money for.

I would however love to see a completely overhauled new text editor with waaaay more possibilities to edit, animate and customize texts and I really hope they will be able to deliver on that somewhere in the future.

Im using Vegas for almost 20 years now when I was a kid and I never saw any major improvements on this editor which is why my frustration came out in this post notably.

Everyone recognizes what is needed. Everyone. And searching the forum will bring this up. Then it turns out to be "lets just pile on" and beat the "dead horse". We all want Vegas Pro to succeed. At least I do.

Imagine going through life with only hearing complaints about your performance and expectations that you haven't met?

As was written in the linked post, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on it. I've always had something else to use. Titler Pro 7 or Boris FX Title Studio. To render a simple text in Vegas with a shadow that is added in the title editor is painfully slow in rendering. Painfully. Until someone suggested to use Layer Dimensionality which I've used in the past with vertical video on a wide screen for shadow. Wow, did that change things for me. Some, including me, have asked for Bluff Titler to be made into a plugin and included. But alas, I doubt that it is happening.

So you see, you aren't alone in wanting a new title editor. Others have posted the same requests in the past. More than once....

Just my opinion, the minimized dev team puts too much effort to achieve a modern looking UI, new AI features etc, probably to be competitive with other modern looking NLE's. At the end, under the hood, there's no improvement in existing features, most of them are as old as the code of Vegas self. At least there's some improvement in stability and preview/rendering speed (at least on my PC). But when I compare this with for example with (free) Davinci Resolve, then Vegaspro has still a long way to go...

I would guess if Vegas had BMD hardware money coming in, things might improve. But unfortunately, they have to depend solely on the sale of the product alone. Where is Musk when you really need him.....

I don't think it's just a question of money. Most NLE's don't have hardware money coming in.

Maybe it will urge them to take this topic more serious if people keep requesting this tool. As I said already it is not my goal to mock or insult anyone.

However: Can you use Boris FX Title Studio with Vegas Pro 23? Since its a plugin I bet most people use it for software like Premiere Pro, AE, etc.?

The existing Vegas title generator has suffered from poor performance for years if certain functions are used. Like character animations with drop shadows. If those functions could be GPU-accelerated, it would probably speed them up. I've gotten around the issue myself by struggling though the design phase, in spite of the stuttering, and then pre-rendering it to an intermediate video clip. Worked well for me when I was using it as a title screen for a tv series where there was no need to regenerate the same opening over and over again for subsequent episodes.

The performance of Vegas rolling text, which I like to use for credits, also suffers but to a lesser extent. It's annoying but not enough of a show-stopper that I've ever tried to pre-construct a tall png for animation in Vegas with key-frames. Faster cpus over the years have helped me live with it.

@Sooxzay I have Boris FX Continuum 2026 which comes with Title Studio. I also have NBFX TotalFX 360 that comes with Titler Pro. So I have both that I can use.

I prefer working with TP in Standalone. I performs better. Same with TS.

When I have to add a drop shadow to a Vegas motion title, I use Layer Dimensionality.

When I have to add a drop shadow to a Vegas motion title, I use Layer Dimensionality.

Not only for adding (faster performing) shadows, also for adding glow or embossing fx (or a combination of those) with Layer Dimensionality, you can achieve interesting FX for titles (or objects like logos, maps etc):

left side without FX, right side with FX.
