How could the beta testers miss this? Seems like a common issue with all of us.
Not seeing this on my i5-750. I judge that 9.0d 64 bit under Win7 is running my AVCHD slightly better than 9.0d 32 bit. But it's still early and I've yet to really get into an AVCHD edit with 9.0d. I spent most of the time today on an SD project which ran very well under 9.0d 64 bit. I'm thinking it's a mixed bag so far with some of us running smoothly under 9.0d -- but not everyone for sure.
Compare with 9.0c 32 bit, the clips looks sharper on a secondary monitor that I use as external monitor for preview. The project also loads slightly faster than 9.0c 32 bit.
Furthermore, Pro Titler, which didn't work in 9.0c 64 bit, now works in 9.0d64bit. Some of the new FX, such as Soft Contrast, which didn't work in 9.0c 64 bit, now works in 9.0d 64 bit.
I only tested with 30 seconds worth of uncompressed 1920 x 1080 AVI. So the test may not be conclusive. But finally, I can use 64 bit to take advantage of more RAM.

xberk on : Seems like every new upgrade of Vegas causes some folks problems that did not exist in the previous version but NOT for everyone and not something everyone can reproduce on their system.
Recognise the non-convergent reactions/results/outcomes here? OK . . If all BETA Testers had the same machines, levels of competence and formats then they could all report back the same issues. And, quite frankly, that would be a pointless exercise. On the other hand, if BETA testers have a varied number of machines, varied levels of personal competence with Vegas and formats they work in, then xberk's comment would also be true and of more value.
I suppose/guess/conclude BETA testing for a company is a process of continuous improvement anyway, as is the actual product being tested.
I was having an issue in 9.0c 64 bit where I'd get random hangs every few minutes, having to kill the application, so I was rather hopeful that the release of 9.0d might solve these problems for me. Unfortunately, 9.0d 64bit won't even open the project - it gets to rebuilding an audio proxy for 5 out of 77 clips and then just hangs. I let it sit while I did other stuff to see if it would ever resolve, and it's been about an hour now. I guess I'll have to go and try the 32 bit versions, or go back to version 8 :-(
Installed 9d x64 and compared to 9c x32 - loading times and timeline navigation only.
I loaded a 60 minute project into 9c. Project is 208 HDV clips, captured by HDVSplit. Changed project settings from PAL DV Widescreen to HDV 50i (1440*1080), just to make sure that this wasn't the cause of the problems I've experienced.
Saved. Loaded back into 9c. Takes about 15 seconds.
Closed 9c, open 9d.
Load project....
Wait, wait, wait. Error message: the plugins(s) specified are not installed on the system.
Can't dismiss message as 9d is stuck at 0% (2 of 208). Hard disk is busy crunching away. Wait wait wait wait wait for about 2 minutes and then 9d becomes responsive. I check to see what plugin is missing: 876ae3ff-8886-40d8-a9a9-b67c101befcb is all I am told (Turns out this is AAV Colorlab).
Dismiss the error message.
Click on time line and try to zoom in by moving the wheel on my scroll mouse upwards one click. No response from Vegas.
-------------
And then some more in depth probing...
I decide to try creating a new project in 9d.
I try copying and pasting from 9c to 9d, but this doesn't work - nothing is pasted into the timeline.
New project. Use the Explorer pane to locate HDV files and drag them on to the timeline.
9d freezes. A real freeze, not a period of non-responsiveness.
Crash out of 9d, and re-open. It asks if I want to recover the autosaved file. I choose not to.
I delete all the .sfk files and load the HDV clips again, this time by dragging from Windows Explorer. Peaks are all rebuilt, but no faster or slower than I've seen in previous versions of Vegas. And NOTHING APPEARS ON THE TIMELINE!
I check the file locations, and the peak files are there, so I delete them and try to load the events again. This time it works. Project settings are for PAL DV Widescreen.
Try to zoom in to the timeline... Non-responsive. 20 seconds to complete a zoom that happens in an instant in 9c. It takes a little while, but eventually the zoms become smooth, until I position the cursor in a different position. Then they become slow and 9d is unresponsive.
Save project, close 9d. Double-click project and 9d opens, but still MUCH slower than 9c. And once the project is loaded, 9d remains as unresponsive as before.
Not pleased with this update

There IS something wrong with 9d. SERIOUSLY wrong. Too many people are having problems with it for it to be unfounded moaning ;-)
With a project with 140 clips in HD Cineform AVI format - takes over 10 minutes to get to '25% complete', appears to have hung, but then then suddenly completes loading soon after that...
With an similar sized HD project from 2007, with clips in M2T format, loads as normal (approx: 10 seconds), with a slight pause as it (re?)creates thumbnails and scales the timeline to fit the window.

okay fresh start this morning so I took the time to download 9d 64 bit.
when I opened vegas 64 bit, it tried to load my last project from 9c and slowly ticked away 1% 2% 3% etc etc...so slow.
so that was the same as had happened in vegas 9d 32 bit.
Next after cancelling that i tried to load a fresh cineform file that i had just captured and hadn't been loaded before.
when i located the file on my hard drive (internal SATA 2) and clicked on it, the program paused, paused again then eventually appeared in the file name box.
I pressed OK and vegas 64 hung for a while, then loaded the file but with no video, just audio!
glad some of you have no problems but this is frustrating.
was this release rushed out as i see anouncements from edius and Avid about updates?
now staying with 9c and living with occasional red frames, oh and green!
> "Too many people are having problems with it for it to be
Who or where is anybody saying that?
TFL, you've done a great piece of issue recording. Very valuable indeed. Others should follow your lead. Great patience.
My suggestion is to get to SONY ASAP and ask for a response. However response times maybe long this week. Something going in Las Vegas presently?
Mind you, having read "others" responses that they are getting a load of better load times. Maybe we are hearing the "issues" rather than the success? It's the old: "Nothing going wrong. Don't need to search a Forum" - dilemma - yeah?

Grazie, the smilie at the end was my way of indicating that it was a tongue-in-cheek comment. If anything it was directed at me for my long, rambling, post.
The only time I've had big problems with Vegas were when there were red frames in 8.0. Generally 9 has been very well behaved. Something somewhere has gone wrong with 9... And that frustrates me. I want to find out what's going on and try to resolve it.
Problem just reported to Sony, with the addition that the Cineform AVI project render failed soon after commencing, with the old "The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications" error.. 9.0d then hung completely, and had to be killed via Task Manager..
There were no problems with this project in 9.0c...

TFL! Good . . Yes I did see your smiley, and you STILL have reason to report AND I'm sure your notes are invaluable to SONY!
OK, just had a range of RED Frames and missing media. Luckily I have had Edward Troxel's Auto Save running so I could retrace my steps and I had to go back 5 iterations of VEgas to get back my media. No problem there, but what I will say that as I moved forward again to the latest iteration of the Project I regained the Media and the Redframe s went. Yes of course they swill - or rather should - but this still doesn't tell me WHY the Red Frames? This was after an intensive spell of PreRendering to get some sequencing correct. SO maybe look out for PreRendering? Yes I had clean out the PreRender pool. Maybe that''s it? PreRendering clean-out kiboshed the Media? Seepage there?

Right-click in the Preview window and disable "Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback".
Then set as desired.
This sounds too wrong to be true ( all above major basic disaster issues ) that I am , nevertheless , going to upgrade one of my two workstations to try out version d , even when being in the middle of a complex editing project.
Voila.
thx to all for what looks like more beta-testing 9d... I'm still using 8 since I can't export my custom render settings into 9.... (did they ever fix this, by the way?)...
let's speak about complex projects. I mean: hundreds of media, at least a dozen tracks, a lot of effects and third-part plugins (on Windows XP 64 bit and Vista 64 bit). Vegas 9.0d cannot open anymore some projects built with NO problems at all with 9.0c ... It took forever to open projects file, or it hangs or it exits suddenly... So what ?
I still have to try with Windows 7, but I'm pessimistic about that.
Does anybody have suggestions or experienced the same problems ?
Item 1] Fill out your system specs. It will assist SONY - TFL has them there!
Item 2] Send your comments and VEG file and any supporting material directly to SONY. Finding others in the same boat kinda wont make for change? If you want to make a change, SONY! - I have!
Also reported. Fingers crossed that something will be done.
I bet Sony will have you delete Vegas (all versions), perhaps clean out the entries in the registry, also maybe even delete any other Sony software, and install Vegas from the 9.0d update. In other words no incremental installs, say from 9.0, to 9.0a, to 9.0b etc., but install Vegas directly from the update. I had a problem in the past with recognizing plugins, (I think it was version 7.0x), and this technique solved it. Since then, when I have the opportunity, I run the install from the latest update. Recently I did a clean install of Win 7, so I installed all the Sony programs from their latest updates. Maybe this can help, since I am having no problems, indeed getting better performance than I had in 9.0c.
I installed vegas 9d on top of my existing 9c installation. XDCAM HD422 mxf files could not be read and startup of vegas was extremely slow. I uninstalled all things related to Vegas 9c, then did a completely new install. This fixed all my problems.
