Vegas Pro - crashes at least once a day

PS: Is there an easy way to reduce the time between Auto Saves? (Automatically Save more often.) That would help. I lose a lot of time and effort when these freezes occur, because I cannot recover like @michael-harrison, below.

@RonB_USA Are you using at least vp17? If so, you can go as low as every minute in Tools->Advanced Save though I'd be careful with that too. VP has threading issues and I'm convinced I've seen a few hangs where it was in the middle of a save when I deleted or added something on the timeline.

This post is already too long, so... Have you tried turning off the so4 loader? That's the thing that got me the most stability. Well, that and setting up a dedicated editing machine where I literally do nothing else on it. Being able to turn off so4 is highly dependent on your source material so it may or may not be applicable to you.

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

Thanks, @michael-harrison. My version is VP18 (see my + Signature for specs). My MP4 video source material is usually XAVC-S 4K. I get great(!) rendering speeds and other specs, but just the freezing problem. That's it. Otherwise, I'm happy.

So what is the difference between a normal .veg Save and the Advanced Save? Is .veg every 10 minutes? I'd like to get it down to five so I don't lose so much. Thanks.

UPDATE: 9/18: See my comments under my "RonB_USA wrote on 8/31/2020, 5:41 AM" post on Page 4. I am now using LIVE SAVE. Neat feature that saves lots of time during these freezes. It apparently Saves after each and every edit decision.

Question: Does/could AutoSave get in the way, and produce whiteout freezes?

iggy097 wrote on 9/2/2020, 5:55 AM

I have to say, since I'm the OP here and it's still going a year from the original post - since I switched to Premiere as I said in this post, I've had almost 0 problems with my workflow. I know this is a Vegas board and I appreciate that, but honestly, save yourself some headaches. I wish I would have changed years ago.

As diverse as the applications, the procedures and the requirements for a product are, as diverse are the reasons why you choose one or the other product.
That's why I switched from Premiere to Vegas Pro years ago.
I have zero problems with what drove you to move from Vegas Pro to Premiere.

@Grazie, thanks for that suggestion.

Question: Does/could AutoSave get in the way, and produce whiteout freezes?

Possible, I guess. Trying to save and recover all of the many change(s) at the same time in order to play back quickly might cause the freezes.

In Preferences | Internal Settings, msAutoSaveInterval is set to 300000 by default. Has anyone changed that? Does that update the .veg (Save As) file like Control S does?

The last item under Preferences | General is Enable Autosave. Should that be checked? (Mine is not.)
