Vegas Pro 18.0 is crashing on startup. I just got it, and haven't managed to successfully open it yet.

Here's the crash details:

Problem Description
   Application Name:    VEGAS Pro
Application Version: Version 18.0 (Build 482)
   Problem:             Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000139)
   Fault Module:        C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
   Fault Address:       0x00000000778EE997
   Fault Offset:        0x00000000000AE997

Fault Process Details
   Process Path:        E:\VegasReal\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe
Process Version:     Version 18.0 (Build 482)
Process Description: File I/O surrogate (not visible)
Process Image Date:  2021-03-04 (Thu Mar 04) 09:01:10

I tried reinstalling Vegas, and I ran the system file checker to try and fix ntdll.dll, but neither helped.

Anyone have any ideas?

ntdll.dll is a basic windows system file so it is likely that Vegas is trying to access an out of date installation in your windows build such as  Microsoft .NET Framework. You may wish to check that you have an updated version of  Microsoft .NET Framework. Also ensure graphics driver is the latest. Also third party FX packages can cause this error too. Some have had this error if Vegas is not installed on drive C: (same as windows partition). There are many, many threads on this one error covering all versions of Vegas and Movie Studio too.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

The crash is in the File I/O Surrogate which is used to properly handle some older codecs such as QuickTime, which is a deprecated feature due to the instability it has in Windows 10. You may have turned this on. If so, you would suggest resetting your preferences so VEGAS does not load that codec plugin anymore.

Installing Vegas onto my C: drive fixed it, thank you andyrpsmith!

For posterity's sake, I'm on Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I'd previously updated my graphics card to no effect.

@Daniel-ST

For future reference, the next time you run into problems, we'll tell you that Vegas Pro 18 actually requires WIN 10.
