Vegas Pro Crashing

Is there a way to fix Vegas 18 Pro from crashing every 5 minutes? I have Googled and tried a dozen different suggestions but still can't use it. I have had no problem in the past, just all of a sudden. If I try to create a proxy video I crash two minutes into it every time. If I don'r create a proxy I crash 5 minutes into it-I have two 5 minute 4k clps on the timeline-Windows 10-- 32 Gb RAM--Radeon RX660 GPU. I have no problem with Movie Studio just Vegas-no software should be this dificult and frustrating! thanks to all.

It says "VST Server stopped working" I have no idea what that means-other than that Reliability screen just shows "stopped working"

I'm getting the above message when launching Vegas Pro 20. I've tried launching as admin; didn't work, still crashing. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling; still didn't work. Any solutions would help. Thanks!

You haven't shown us anything, yet.

  1. Tick the boxes to expose the error data.
  2. Start a new thread. You're running different Vegas Pro version.

thanks-all this is beyond me-years of using Movie Studio and Vegas, (older versions) I have never had a problem-I am not computer savvy enough to diagnose this craziness-all I do is drum covers using Reaper to record my drums and Sony cameras to shoot the video, then Vegas to sync the audio and video-I have VST plug ins in Reaper but I don't know how that would affect Vegas-Powerdirector works like a charm but is just not as good of quality end result as my Vegas-I guess I'll just go with lower quality and take my losses for upgrading to Pro 18-I wish I could go back to my older version!

Try resetting Vegas Pro back to its default (factory) settings as per:

... and see if that resolves the problem. It could be that a recent W10 update upset the apple-cart.

Looks like Sony camera X-AVC S files which should play back well enough in VEGAS.

Are your GPU drivers up to date?

If VEGAS is crashing due to VSTs it doesn't like don't use them in VEGAS. If even seeing the VSTs is causing a crash, go into VEGAS preferences and remove the problem VST folders so it can't find them.

VP 20 has a new VST engine though it's still a work in progress.

Options / Preferences / VST Effects (tab) allows you to enable disable VST folders.

The ones that come with VEGAS should be fine so leave them be. Find them in options/preferences/VST Effects


Where does Reaper store the VSTs? Try removing those pathways from preferences/VST Effects, restart VEGAS and see if the crashes end.

I don't know-all my plug ins are VSTs--they are in a folder of their own-I don't know why that would affect Vegas-I mixed down my tracks with the plug ins-plays perfectly on my pc and everywhere else-dunno why Vegas would say theirs a problem-as I said, even Cyberlink Powerdirector works perfectly with it so I think I'll just give up on Vegas-just too complicated and quirky but thanks for the help.

Well if you are comfortable using Cyberlink PowerDirector and it suits your editing needs without the complication, then of course, stick with it...... I however would recommend later down the road, to give your system a full cleanup, driver updates and clearing out all unnecessary vst audio plugins and then give Vegas Pro 20 a go.
