I can have it open for a few minutes, and then suddenly it will crash. I get an error, just saying "VEGAS Pro has crashed". It is, of course, a legally purchased edition, licensed to me. Where do I find my crash dumps?

Nothing, you have I think a problem with a driver for a GPU on your hardware. But your hardware we don't know also as the program where you see that error. Without knowing that we cannot help you. Sorry
Open these files with notebook and have a look at the lines of text it will tell you what Vegas is doing and if it was successful or failed. It is related to your GPU I think.
@andyrpsmith Should it be possible to wait interfering while others are trying to help to com with all kind of possibilities you saw here on the site? Often it is for a not experienced OP very confusing. Start your own suggestion when the helped person does not know how to carry on.
