Hi, communities i have a question i have the quick time plugin active ( after turning on pluqin the restart of the application took place several times). After adding a certain clip/track, unfortunately I only hear the audio track, and the image is unavailable.
Recorded on iPhone 14 pro max via blackmagic cam app, encoder is HEVC (H.265). Files have .mov extension.

Can anyone help me or at least give me some tips ?

@Jakub

Hi, do you have Quicktime installed? Once installed you don't need to do anything with it, don't open it or sign in to anything on it.

@Jakub Any chance you can make a short sample clip available for download on a cloud drive?

Newer phone file formats don't work with old VEGAS versions is my best guess. Try different phone settings.

QuickTime plugin doesn't help with modern media like HEVC.

Yes, I had, and then I uninstalled, here on the forum, I found an alternative and I installed it, it also did not help..

Try to Go to Settings > Camera. Select Formats and then Most Compatible for H264 that should work with VP 18.

Otherwise you can convert it: https://www.shutterencoder.com/ is what I use (it's free).

On reddit, I traced, more or less, what you're writing here. The only way is handbrake, but I want to ask if you know what format to choose to make it as close to the original as possible. I can't help but think it's worse since I converted it to mp4 from mov. The frame rate is preserved as well as the resolution. I don't know if by converting I lost the HDR Video. I know for next time I will have to use the H264 codec.

I'm not a filmmaker, so I'm swimming in it a bit I'm an editor who focuses on video manuals on apps.

Now I know the codec was bad, and auto FPS does anyone know what else could be causing this? I'll send to rebuild the settings in balck magic camera

Reddit:
iPhones are set to "auto-framerate"(fps) by default. This creates bullshit video with a variable frame rate. Vegas cannot handle it, nor can some other editors. You need to reprocess it into non-bullshit video using something like Handbrake.

To prevent this issue in the future, go into your iphone's video settings and turn off auto-FPS. Set it to 29.97fps or 30fps (whichever option it has) While you are in there, set the codec to h264 as suggested by others.

Apple ended Quicktime sipport for Windows in 2016, the last QT Windows release being 7.7.9. Understandably, QT codec support in Windows will be limited to QT-related codecs supported in 7.7.9.

You might want to try transcoding your iPhone video to .mp4 in a free transcoder such HandBrake or Shutter Encoder.though I don't know whether or not these transcoders can deal with iPhone .mov video (always Android here).

Another reason for transcoding is that most phones record video in a Variable Frame Rate (VFR) - and sometimes the minimum and maximum frame rates can be significantly different. Many on the forum over the years have have had playback difficulties with VFR video in Vegas Pro and the usual advice has been to transcode that VFR video to a Constant Frame Rate using one of the aforementioned transcoders.

Handbrake isn't the only way, it's one tool. The settings are easy to mess up so personally I use ShutterEncoder. Either work fine and they work with iPhone .movs without issue.

MP4 and MOV are just containers and for this purpose are identical- they can both store AVC and HEVC.

Unless you have a 1000 nit HDR computer monitor you can't really see what you are doing so I would stick with Rec 709 non-HDR recording on the phone.

For codec try H264 in your app. There's no real way to make it constant framerate as this is how the phone works.

For your existing footage you can try Handbrake starting from the "production standard preset." Change the quality CQ to say 20 or so (should be adequate for phone footage), change keyint in the advanced settings box to your framerate (60?), keep resolution on the original and select constant framerate. I'd output Rec709 for use in VEGAS.
