VP21 b300 and big problem with MXF

pierre-k wrote on 4/8/2024, 10:16 AM

I have a big problem with MXF files.
Vegas uses mxcompoundplug.dll

Although the videos play amazingly smoothly now, there are major problems.

1. For some interviews, the image is delayed by about a second. There are often artifacts in the video and flickering of images from another part of the file.

2. MXFs are imported as multichannel audio even if this option is not enabled.

3. If I open multiple MXF files, they look like this in the timeline:

I don't have time for more experiments. I am reverting back to a lower version.

Which GPU do you use for decoding? The integrated Intel or the GTX 970?

I/O..... intel

Video settings... Intel. The latest drivers.

I tried selecting the Off option and the results are the same.

More examples, these are 4:2:2 10bit AVC, so no hardware decoder is involved

2. MXFs are imported as multichannel audio even if this option is not enabled.

See that also with FS7 MXF files. So, how were your files generated/shoot? I wonder, what Sony Mem is.

3. If I open multiple MXF files, they look like this in the timeline:

Does not happen with FS7 MXF files.

Maybe it would be good to have some short test files? If you can upload them.

Try editing the files or slowing down. Bugs will come soon.

Harold-Linke wrote on 4/9/2024, 12:26 PM

@pierre-k, hi Pierre I downloaded your files and tested them with Build 300. I do not see this issues in my side.

The audio preview is correct and I do not see the issues you showed in your first video.

Also editing is no problem.I am using Intel for decoding too, but have a "very" old system (i7-7700 CPU).

Driver Version 27.20.100.8854.

I have an NVIDIA RTX 3050 for encoding.

I will continue tests tomorrow. Sorry for not being very helpfull now.

Harold

Try to set intel or off everywhere. Thank you.

@pierre-k like @Harold-Linke, I too have no problems playing back the clips at Best>Full. I am using an all AMD computer. Specs in my Signature.

Same for me. No problemes with loading the files, and full playback speed on my laptop. See signiture for specs of the laptop.

See transient problem with those clips on my laptop. Tried default settings: gpu=3060(optimal), decoding=3060(auto). Glitches on certain frames. Tried dropping markers and the glitch shows up again on restart but often in a different place. Switched decoding to Intel and the glitch is somewhere else. Best results with decoding=off. Here's a couple of examples:

Btw, legacy-avc not much different. Fwiw, they played back smoothly with the glitches barely noticeable. But evident in the renders too.

UltraVista wrote on 4/9/2024, 5:45 PM

Another problem with MXF 4K 4:2:2 10bit , from speed perspective they play well at 4K in forward direction 40 - 50% CPU, but play in reverse and I get 10fps and CPU is at 100%. That is a dramatic slowdown caused by playing in reverse, a bug or normal?

set wrote on 4/9/2024, 5:54 PM

If all the media just being put to timeline, and played back as a whole, no issues.

But if you put the playhead cursor on random place, and do playback, problem comes.

How long for patch?, my sub due and this is holding up my work considering other NLE

Dexcon wrote on 4/10/2024, 8:55 AM

@Yaadgar ... you can always uninstall build 300 and go back to an earlier Vegas Pro 21 build via one of the earlier builds linked in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-where-can-i-download-vegas-pro-and-other-vegas-software--104782/

It looks like that you are in the professional video editng field so you should have backup copies of earler Vegas Pro .veg projects because anything saved in build 300 is not backward compatible to earlier Vegas Pro builds.

BTW, changing to another NLE usually means starting the editing process right from the beginning again unless you can get a basic EDL export (or the like) from Vegas Pro.

Hello @pierre-k I could locate and fix the issue. The next update shall contain this MXF file problem no longer. Please check for announcements of @VEGASDerek when the next update will be available.

Fix shall apply to SONY MXF files with AVC high profile and deep color (10 bit and 4:2:2 chroma sub sampling).

jeremyscottproductions wrote on 4/17/2024, 11:07 AM

This also applies to Canon C70 Files using MXF / HEVC 4:2:2 10 Bit. Not working at all, super glitchy, rendering all my current projects completely un-usable in the newest version.
