Who (still) uses VegasPro to edit camera footage?

3POINT wrote on 12/24/2024, 5:08 AM

When I read the forum, most post concern issues with media not coming from cameras, but with media generated from screencaptures of gameplays, downloads from youtube (is that legal?), stockmedia from the Vegas hub, TV-recordings/streamings and so on.

I can't imagine that VegasPro users buy a Pro NLE just to edit such media, where are the users that produce their footage with a (own) camera, to edit and produce something creative and unique?

Merry X-mas to everybody!

That's the beauty of VEGAS, it works for all kinds of productions.

Reyfox wrote on 12/24/2024, 6:29 AM

Me? I use mainly the media I record on my cameras. Rarely stock footage.

And a Merry Christmas to you also @3POINT

I also use only footage of my cameras
But I become too old with trembling fingers to use my Panasonic, as i noticed during my vacation this year.
Now I only use footage from my DJI pocket and my GOPro

Early on it was very easy to crack Vegas, that is why it caught on with gamers, etc. I would say a lot of them are still using cracked versions which is why the Sony moniker has stuck. I still use it for camera footage and editing TV shows to my parents.

Jack S wrote on 12/24/2024, 10:01 AM

I do. The only other media I edit with are OBS recordings for my tutorials.

Ok, both the camera and me seems to be outdated!

@Wolfgang S. Probably not as outdated as me and my camcorder. I'm in my 81st year and my SONY Handicam is in its 14th year.

@Jack S, well I feel old with my 62 years too. Uses Vegas since version 4. And sure, my actual Camcorders are the FS7, the EVA1 and the Blackmagic Pocket 6K/6K Pro. Especially the FS7 and EVA1 are some kind of dino-camcorder, but deliver still great results. But I would like to add an FX30/FX3 to my cameras.

I still use Vegas to edit media from the Sony RX10-IV with a tripod and rig that gets 2 pounds heavier every month.

I use Vegas to edit OBS recordings for demos that I make in an attempt to assist others here.

I've never played video games and would never date anyone who did. I was a first-person-shooter, I don't have a need to simulate such things no matter how realistic.

I have a four-channel DVR but I use VideoReDo if I do any editing to that content at all.

Around this time of year, I'm forced by the government to look at our "accumulated wealth" and pay taxes. My wife and I have contemplated starting a program of generational wealth transfer prior to our impending demise...

... but then I saw the Sony A1 II and the Porsche Panamera...

... thinking.

Maybe, I'll buy three 5-pound lenses and a carbon fiber tripod.

Better yet, I'll spend a few minutes replacing the washers in my dripping lavatory faucet and then wrap some gifts.

Bah Humbug!

I use all sorts of consumer formats from about 1980 on. Currently my usual cameras are A7-IV and AX700 and iPhone 13 up to 4K. I also use Gopro, DJI drones and other phones. Sometimes captures from MiniDV, Hi8, betamax and VHS. Sometimes 60 and 50Hz in the same video! Vegas works pretty well with everything, and I like that.

I am past 6 decades as well!

Time for the developers to abandon Vegas pro, and replace it with 2 new products: Vegas Junior and Vegas Senior.

Vegas Junior will only be available on smartphones, fully AI driven, small icons and text, a You tube button for quick upload to you tube, OBS game capture button, fast forward button, integration with TikTok, no support for cameras.

Vegas Senior supports cameras, VHS cassette conversion, big readable fonts and icons, slow motion, black-and-white film conversion to color, audio amplification.

Happy New Year!

@bitman Great idea but with Vegas Junior it should support camera shots taken on the phone.

3POINT wrote on 12/31/2024, 4:34 AM

@bitman Indeed a good idea, maybe just a Vegas Gamer (a free version, that replaces the "Sony" version 😉) and a Vegas Pro Studio version (like Davinci Resolve), but unfortunately the Vegas team is too small to maintain two versions (the reason VegasMovieStudio died).

Happy New Year!

Over 7 decades myself. I am "old school" in a lot of ways. It is the quality of the finished product that matters to me.

But catering to the cellphone crowd is a good thing, since that is the way of the future, although there is slowly a move for those that want better quality, going to cameras.

Yes, Happy New Year!
