Why do we lose this EVERY TIME?

Jessariah67 wrote on 1/26/2023, 6:26 AM

Is there a reason why we lose our custom tool icons EVERY TIME this updates? I know we've talked about this before, and I can't find where they've pointed us to replace whatever file it was that got replaced to begin with. Am I missing something? Thanks.

@Jessariah67, what, exactly, are you referring to? I've added scripts to the toolbar and they show up just fine after each update with the correct icon.

@Jessariah67 I am at a loss as to what exactly you are mentioning, because my Vegas toolbar is loaded with personalized custom tool icons way back from Vegas Pro 17 until now, and nothing ever disappears, got missing or went out of place during updates, upgrades etc.

Describe for us exactly what is happening on your end with this issue.

@Jessariah67 - I know if I use my Custom Windows Layouts I need to SAVE all the sets of Icons to the Layout too.

Sorry - I'm talking about this...which I have to rebuild after every "major" update.

Just like the track & event button sets will sometimes reset.

Interesting, while I have had these reset on me before that hasn't happened with VP 20 yet.

@Illusion It's crazy.. I just poke the registry at that metrics when I came and read your reply.

- Yes this is it, but it also saves the recent projects list, so one might loose them with the .reg import.

I seem to learn a new trick here every day! Looks like the customized toolbar is in an analogous location for vp20:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VEGAS Creative Software\VEGAS Pro\20.0\Metrics\Application

I like the render-as icon on the end but always have to move it again after a cntrl-shift reset on startup. To not disturb the recent projects list, I just edited the exported .reg file with notepad to remove lines that start with "S10nn" such as these:

"S1000"="D:\\MISC\\Benchmarks\\10 SampleProject 4K.veg"
"S1002"="D:\\MISC\\Benchmarks\\30 4k RedCar v16.veg"
"S1004"="D:\\MISC\\Benchmarks\\John-Ivar\\bench\\VEGAS Pro Fanmade Ad v1.01.veg"
"S1006"="D:\\MISC\\Benchmarks\\John-Ivar\\bench\\VEGAS Pro Fanmade Ad v1.01(AI).veg"
"S1008"="C:\\Users\\hv\\Videos\\WeirdAl_vp20.veg"
"S1010"="C:\\Users\\hv\\Videos\\WeirdAl.veg"

Apparently when you re-import the edited .reg file, it overwrites or adds only the value entries in the file and leaves value entries not matching but already in the registry as they were.

I haven't lost any scripts added to the toolbar on VEGAS 20 updates. (or VEGAS 19 updates). I have lost them in the past but not recently.
